Welcome to the site.

You can gain a beginners understanding of Islam by left clicking on my username, "miq1" and choosing the option "Find more posts by this user," then go to page 3 of my posts and read the threads titled "Learning Islam (LI)" which are in parts, starting with "Part 1." You can also read the following post to convince yourself of Islam: "Proving Islam"

Some etiquette for the Muslim includes the following:

1) When beginning something, including eating, say, "Bis-mill-Law" or pronounced "Bismillah," meaning "In the name of Allah."

2) When greeting a Muslim say "`Asalaam Alyakum," "peace be upon you."

3) When thanking a Muslim say, "Jazak-Allahu khairan," meaning "May Allah reward you for the good."

Therefore, you may say to me, "Jazak-Allahu Khairan brother."

You may also go to the following website after you finish reading the "Proving Islam" and "Learning Islam (LI)" threads: http://www.islamreligion.com/

:salam2: - This is Asalaam Alakum, "peace be upon you"

:wasalam: - This is Wa aalakum Asalaam, "and peace be upon you," which is said by a Muslim after another Muslim initiates the first greeting, Asalaam Alakum.

There is good advice in the following thread:
http://www.turntoislam.com/forum/showthread.php?t=42292

After reading the "Learning Islam (LI)" threads, and you feel comfortable with identifying your beliefs as Islamic, you may desire to visit a masjid (mosque) in order to get more information. Look for a large masjid, which is better than praying in peoples homes, and call them, asking for a good time to meet and ask questions and tour the place of worship, finding out how to pray and other essentials of the religion. Converting in front of a congregation of Muslims is best, because they can introduce themselves to you, befriend you, and help in strengthening your faith.

You can also visit the following website, in order to ask about converting to Islam and to get free books and other useful information, such as finding a place of worship where you live. They have an online chat. The website is:

Asalaamu alaikum (peace of God be upon you)
I am an american white christian revert to islam (female). I do know how you feel. A good place to obtain knowledge is a website called www.thedeenshow.com. It is a white american man who converted to Islam and he hosts a show. He talks to other muslims about their conversions to Islam and all kinds of topics like marriage, fasting, praying, forgiveness, just all kinds of things. A lot of the videos are pretty short (5 to 30 minutes) but some get pretty lengthy. Anyway, I think it's definitely a good place to start. They talk about how to become muslim, too, if you're interested. Are you a practicing christian? I'm assuming you're not because you live with your girlfriend, but I still want to know all the same. =) Welcome to TTI, by the way!

Gaining salvation is the most important thing in a person's existence. Therefore, do not be shy when gaining religious knowledge, this is simply a ploy of the shayateen (devils); the Muslim's in the city in which you live are most likely familiar with converts and discussing Islam and giving tours, etc. Perhaps it is best to build your resolve by watching videos of British people and persons from Wales, converting to Islam, which can be found in the "New Muslim Videos" section of this website. Then it is perhaps best to chat on the website I have already provided. But, eventually you must visit the local masjid.

Now, concerning your girlfriend, perhaps it is best to not engage in any physical acts with her because it will trouble you, because you are close to Islam and you understand that relationships outside marriage are prohibited. After you read the "Learning Islam (LI)" threads and "Proving Islam" thread, try to convince your friend of Islam by showing her this material and the website I have provided in the previous posts and allow her to read the information and see the evidences proving Islam and perhaps she may also convert.

The following website also has good videos on Islam, such as the story of a former Christian minister disproving Christianity. Allow your friend to also view the videos:
