:salam2: brothers and sisters...
well, i have doubt regarding taraweeh...
we all know that in taraweeh we recite the holy quran (alhamdulillah)..
well, as i have not memorized the holy quran , what should i do, how should i recite surat - ul- bakara, surah-al-imran (etc) in my prayer?...
we cannot keep quran infront of us and recite in our prayer, i guess it is prohibited..
so what should i do..as i cant go to mosque here in india, its too tough..if i was to be in saudi, then every ramadhan we would spend staying in makkah..but, its too tough right now...so,
can any one plz tell me?
jasakallah khair

Sister its not compulsory for you to read Quran from Baqarah to Naas, in Taraaveeh. You may recite any areas that you know. Important is recitation of Quran, not where and which Surah.

I too do not know whole Quran yet. So I recite areas which I know, in Tahajjud.

Also one thing. Whether we do 8 Rak'ahs or 20 Rak'ahs, or even any other amount of Rak'ahs, thats not a problem at all. What we should do is pray by two Rak'ahs (Units) two Units and when you decide to end, pray extra one Unit as Witr. Thats all. Prayer of Night will be in Odd numbers, whether Tahajjud or Taraveeh (whatever we call them).

Hope it helped.

are you sure brother! are you sure its okay...
I've just heard a Shaikh saying that you can hol the Mus'haf it's MUBAH it means you can do it for all MADH'HABS except for MADH'HAB of Imam MALEEK; it's MAKROUH (not HARAM) but better don't if you have Imam MALEEK's MADH'HAB but I don't think you have this MADH'HAB in India so you can do it (hold Al Mus'haf when parying).

yes sister, you can hold and recited the mushaf and follow the imam in tarawih prayers. Tarawih is not an obligation but a nawafil (recommended/voluntary prayer). Nawafil prayers you can pray sitting, while on horse/camel/car/airplane with mushaf or without mushaf etc. as for obligatory than the ruling is different.

also, there is nothing in the sunnah making it an obligation to finish the Quran in month of Ramadan. It is more of an importance to recite slowly with tajweed and be able to understand its meaning. There is no way a person can recite the whole Quran in month of ramadan and still recite with proper tajweedd. Allah says in surah Muzammil 73:4 in closest meaning,

: Or a little more; and recite the Quran (aloud) in a slow, (pleasant tone and) style.

Beatiful news and congratulations for accepting to submit yourself to your Lord Allah in Islaam. In order for a person to pray the 5 daily obligations, it is sufficient to know Surah Al-Fatiha, the opening chapter. There is no prayer without Al-Fatiha as it is mentioned in one narration from the prophet :saw:. in one hadith the prophet said ev kema qal that if a person recite Quraan properly, he/she gets one reward. If a person recites Quran with hardship, making errors etc, while trying to learn and become better, he gets Two rewards. So, your trying with hardship, you get Two rewards while i get one reward lol. May Allah reward you. So, just try ur bets to learn the arabic alphabet and listen to some reciters who recite slow but properly. I recommend to you Shaykh al-Hosary. I have recited with him and may Allah reward him, he recites in a slow paste and easy to follow.

There is no problem with you to follow the imaam if you know what he is reciting and you have memorized it. But do not recite out loud that you disturb other sisters because the prophet :saw: said that one the imam is reciting, we should be quiet. You can recite with your lips without making sound. Also, there is no problem for you to hold a small Quran in your hand and follow the imaam. Sometimes, i have realized that it is more of funner if i follow the imam while holding a mushaf in my hand and it doesnt seem long. Just like looking at someone who gives a lecture than listening to someone give a lecture but not necessaraly looking at him. It is normal the that first is more interresting than the second. So, sometimes having the mushaf in your hand, and follow the recitation of the imaam can make it more interresting, less long, and you know how far the imaam has reached.

Sorry for the confusion i thought i was clear. Do you pray tarawih in masjid with an imaam? if yes, then he is your imam :) and you do have one. If your Quran is big you can always get a small stand and put a quran infront of you. Islaam is an ease sister, dont make it difficult upon yourself. Like i said, this is a nawaafil a sunnah prayer and not obligation so you can pray sitting if you wish.

heheh you are a quick replier. How big is your Quraan? If it is a normal size like any other hold it with both of your hands, when you go to rukuaa close it and hold it in one hand (but put a marker so you know where you are :). then when you go to sujoood, place it next to you. When you go back up, pick it up and continue as before. Im gonna go recite myself now. Hope this helps.
