Asalamu alaykum warahmatullahi wabarakahu Brothers and Sisters. I am getting very confused on my prayers as I take a course on prayer.

Do I recite Surah Fatiha in all 4 cycles of obligatory prayer or only first two cycles of obligatory and then in all cycles of Sunnah, if only in first two rakats of obligatory prayer I recite Surah Fatihah what do I recite in the last two cycles

and

Can I recite just an ayat after Al Fatiha or do I recite a whole Surah?

May Allah Subana Wa Ta'ala reward you greatly for your help as I try to perfect prayer to worship Allah Subana Wa Ta'ala the right way.

Salam Sis!

Yes! you do recite Al-Fatiha in all 4 cycles and then after Al-Fatiha a second Surah. you can recite a short Surah or a part of it (An Ayat). The last two (or for Maghrib last one Raka) just recite Al-Fatiha!

Take note that For Fajr you recite Al-Fatiha and Second Surah for the two Rakas.

I also learned from the this website

JazakAllah Khairan Brother, this helps me understand better

and in Sunnah prayers I recite both Al Fatihah and Surah/ayat because Sunnah is done in two rakats for each Sunnah prayer, is this right. for example Duhr prayer, I pray 2+2 Sunnah 4 Fard 2 Sunnah

Suban'Allah I believe I am getting mixed up with Necessary obligatory to make prayer sound if in hurry and Sunnah way of prayer that should be done when not pressed for time

haha ok I will Summarize

4 Rakat prayer (Duhr,Asr And Isha)

(-1st Raka-)
Al-Fatiha and then Any Surah/Ayat

(-2nd Raka-)
Al-Fatiha and then Any Surah/Ayat

(Then Before you start the 3rd Raka you do half of the Tashahud, do you know what Tashahud is ?)

(-3rd Raka-)
Only Al-Fatiha

(-4th Raka-) Only Al-Fatiha

(Then Full Tashahud. After that you say a small Dua then you say your Salams)

Do you know rebecca m and Nye armstrong ? they are a pair of convert sisters Al-Hamdulilah.They group together simple videos for everyone to learn.

And Forgive me if I didnt tell you enough and May Allah SWT Forgive me if I made any mistakes.

Mash'Allah Brother! Yes and thank you, I always recited an ayat or Surah in 3rd and 4th rakat. Alhamdulillah, yes I have watched these two lovely sisters on Youtube last year when I reverted. Thank you for linking them for me to watch. I am also taking a course at the moment from Qibla called Essentials of Islam Hanfi and I am just watching the pre recorded lesson on prayer. There isn't another live session with the teacher until Saturday but I became confused. JazakAllah Kharian

Do you need anymore help ?

Mash'Allah Brother, Thank you, if I may ask about the forgetful prayer. I am confused on this as I know if I forget a part of the prayer I am after the first Salam to make sajdah once again and say Tashahud and then turn to my right and give Salam again then to my left and say Salam, is this right? I'll try to explain this in simple terms but you have to do your own research as well.

This is how I understood it and practice according to the Website which I will post.

1-) if you did something extra like praying an extra Rakat, you Prostrate twice AFTER saying your Salams and then say your Salam again.
eg. You figured you did something extra: 1-) Say your Salams 2-) Prostrate Twice 3-) After you are done with two Prostrations, say your Salams again.

2-) If you are not sure of something in your prayer , you Prostrate Twice AFTER your Salams and you do it the same way as the top one.

3-) I'll quote a part of the website for this
"Omitting an obligatory part of the prayer – such as if he omits an obligatory part and moves on to the next part of the prayer. For example, he forgets to say Subhaan Rabbiy al-A’la (Glory be to my Lord Most High).

Either he thinks that one or the other is more likely to be case, whether it is doing more or omitting something, in which case he should proceed on the basis of what he thinks is more likely to be the case, complete his prayer accordingly, then do the prostration of forgetfulness after saying the salaam;

Or neither appears more likely to be the case, so he should proceed on the basis of what is certain, namely the lesser amount, and complete his prayer accordingly, then do the prostration of forgetfulness before saying the salaam."

Im trying to make it simple for you to understand because I know you are new to all of this so I dont want to steep you with information overload. Note that there is no extra Tashahud when performing Prostration of Forgetfulness.

This is where I got my information if you wish to read from it: http://islamqa.com/en/ref/12527

By the way its best if you try not to do it because they say if you are constantly doing Prostation of Forgetfulness (it is called Sujud As-Sahw in Arabic by the way ) it is a sign that the evil one (Satan) is trying to mess with your head and your prayer.

Read it here , I find this post to be EXTREMELY beneficial and I HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend you read it and May Allah SWT Bless the person who wrote it and posted it.

Mash'Allah Brother, thank you again and I will Insha'Allah read this link soon and learn as you did. Yes I try very hard to not allow the Shaitan to play with my head and mess me up in prayer but he does. I can even hear loud whispers during my prayer that will say "I HAte You!" or other inappropriate and tormenting comments. It's like he is right there as I can hear him but I can not see him except a couple of times in my life. I stop my prayer and ask to seek refuge in Allah Subana Wa Ta'ala when that happens and at times turn my head to the left, dry spit three times then again ask to seek refuge in Allah Subana Wa Ta'ala. It is difficult as a revert because Shaitan really hates when we are led to the right way of life and when we as reverts have no family or friends who are Muslim and live alone the Shaitan really tries to get in. The Shaitan has been terrorizing me verbally for many years, Suban'Allah for the Muslim faith to say I'm not crazy instead teaches me how to seek refuge in Allah Subana wa Ta'ala, how to read and learn the Qur'an and Hadiths and to keep asking Allah Subana Wa Ta'ala to purifiy me with wudu with constant prayer and repentance and steadfastness and Faith. You have seen Satan ?

Asalamu alaykum brother, at the time I believed very much it was Satan (but I'm not sure what an Islamic perspective on this would be), he wasn't the red looking devil with the pointy ears and tail and pitch fork he is perceived in drawings, but he wasn't a man either, he was a creature and yes as clear as if I could see my then husband who was standing there also. Satan or what I believe to be Satan appeared in my bedroom and said in clear words and loud voice "Your Hell is about to Begin". I dropped to my knees and prayed to God for mercy and not to let me go to Hell. I went semi catatonic for a week. First thing people ask if I was on drugs or drinking but I was not either. But before he appeared I felt a sudden evil presence in the hallway of the house and began shaking uncontrollably and became freezing cold in the house, or so felt to me. I wrapped up in a blanket going from room to room in the house but couldn't stop shaking, but it wasn't from being cold, it was a feeling something evil was in the house. I was crying uncontrollably in the kitchen and my (then) husband kept asking me what was wrong but I kept saying I didn't know but something is wrong, I ran into my bedroom, he ran after me and that's when I saw it standing there. This was in September 2002, and a type of Hell did begin for many years that began two weeks after the night, but a very long story. Suban'Allah mercy came to me in 2011 when I heard the call to prayer from Egypt (another part of my story how I came to Islam aside from watching the prayer in Tahrir square on 8 Rabi Al Awwal 1432), then began trying to read the Qur'an, it's a long story and has been quite a long journey. Suban'Allah I am so grateful Allah Subana Wa Ta'ala has taken mercy on me and gave me a chance by opening the door to Islam for me. ( I was always told I was and have paranoid schizophrenic episodes (hearing these voice saying "I Hate You" and other tormenting voices while I'm in prayer because I was diagnosed with Bipolar when I was 15 and have been struggling with that and the sensitivity to my surroundings that comes with it). Islam gave me hope that there is possibly Jinn who are trying to annoy me and I'm not as crazy as others say I am although at times leaves me riding an emotional roller coaster, If it wasn't for the 5 calls to prayer and Pillars and Faith and the right way of life through the right guidance I'm not sure how my mental state would be today, probably completely destabilized

Subhan'Allah!
May Allah SWT Help you and Protect you from all evil sis!

I hope you get better with your condition Insha'Allah!
Mash'Allah Brother, Insha'Allah, and one day I do hope to get an Islamic perspective on much of what was inflicting me throughout my life . Thank you for your humble kindness and prayers. Alhumdulillah learning the Muslim faith has given me strength and faith against the evil that was present in my life causing me much physical, emotional, mental and spiritual pain and gave me a better lifestyle of living to follow. Islam has also given me stability on how to manage the Bipolar and keep me stable and continue to keep me stable Insha'Allah. When emotions of either mania or depression try to overtake my life or flashbacks or triggers of certain things that can set off instablity I have learned through the Islamic way to seek refuge in Allah Subana Wa Ta'ala and his strength instead gives power over those infliction's which try to oppress me. The Qur'an and Islamic way is very powerful in healing for mental illness in my humble opinion, as long as steadfastness is practiced with the right guidance and not be in a situation to be led astray. Suban'Allah I have found much tranquility in practicing Islam as I try and ignore those tormenting voices that want to distract me from practice. fi aman allah

You have seen Satan ?

Suban'Allah! I didn't know there were different types of Jinn and when I looked up on line I saw drawings of different types. The one I described is a Ghoul. This happened after my then husband and I decided to fly to Montego Bay Jamaica and get married there by a non denominational minister. Throughout the ceremony low flying jet planes kept flying overtop disrupting us so the minster had to keep stopping. That was April 6 2000, then after that things began changing dramatically. My husband wasn't the same person who I thought I knew for years prior. That night I saw this devil jinn my husband was playing around on the computer and came across a website where Homer Simpson from the cartoon the Simpsons has a button that said 'hear Homer say Satan backwards three times.' I asked him not to do it since I took these things very serious and not to fool around with evil but he did it anyway. Not long after is when I began to feel the evil presence in the house and many years of torment began. Suban'Allah, I also feel after 2011 I was inflicted with the evil eye as my hair was coming out in clumps when I started to be finally able to read the Qur'an which took me 5-6 months after first reading Al Fatihah and a bit of Al Baqarah. I tried everyday but there was terrible noise in my head whenever I would try to read so I would have to put away and try again the next day.

After I was able to read Qur'an, as I kept praying to Allah Subana Wa Ta'ala to help me read, I am now able to read everyday Suban'Allah, a few months ago my hair stopped falling out in clumps and the receding hair line I was noticing is now filling back in and my hair is thickening back up.

Alhamdulillah, So many things have happened to me over many years including magic and I thought people were in my house, and they were talking to me and I was talking to them but I couldn't see them, I could only hear them, but now I know they were Jinn and still is Jinn. They or He/She isn't as strong now because of Qur'an reading, praying the 5 obligatory and Sunnah, fasting, zakat and letting Al Baqarah play at night in my room while I go to sleep a few times a week, sometimes I will play the recitation of the Qur'an continually in my apartment.

Suban'Allah I am so grateful for Islam and Allah Subana Wa Ta'ala sending the Qur'an and Prophet Muhammad Sallallahu alayhi wasallam into my life so I could learn the way to rid my life of all these Jinn that were around me. Insha'Allah they won't keep inflicting me. I can still feel the Jinn here trying to pull me away from prayer by making me body feel so heavy and depressed but I know the only way to defeat this takeover is through submission and prayer to Allah Subana Wa Ta'ala and cry out to him for mercy and help. This happened tonight to me at Maghrib prayer, Suban'Allah I first kneeling on my prayer mat after call to prayer asking Allah Subana Wa Ta'ala for strength as I felt I couldn't even get up to pray. I felt myself have energy to just get up for fard prayer but during fard prayer I prayed to give me energy to not miss Sunnah prayer so I felt more energy once Fard was done and was able to complete Sunnah. For Isha prayer I had all energy back and my depression and feeling so heavy had disappeared. Suban'Allah, the shifa of Allah Subana Wa Ta'ala.

Asalamu alaykum warahmatullahi wabarakahu Brother, Insha'Allah you can help me. I have received two understandings on the Fajr Sunnah prayer. Do I perform Sunnah prayer just before the Adhan sounds or right after the first Adhan? Because Witr prayer is to be the last prayer before Fajr during the night or hour before Fajr, is this correct? I also must thank you and May Allah Subana Wa Ta'ala reward you greatly for this link and highly advising me to read as at times I hear these doubts and cry so much thinking I have done something wrong and I am not worthy of worshiping because I stumble or have difficult time concentrating sometimes during prayer and wonder if I did Salams usually after I've moved on to dhikr, in the process of dhikr I begin to wonder if I made Salams first. This makes me feel I did not complete my prayer and wonder if my prayer will be accepted. JazakAllah Kharian
