It's better to stick to tafsir ibn katheer as those who lived while the prophet of Allah was amongst them would know the book of Allah better than any one else. And study tafheen for additonal info.
He followed the hanafi madhab strictly, we now know that we can leave some of imaam abu haneefa's fatwa's because authentic hadith are available which run counter to his fatwas.
Please don't take it as if I'm judging him or something, I understand that it's not my job and Allah alone has the right to do so. I'm not baised against him, his literature or jamat. I have great respect for him. A personality who has spent more than 20 years in prison for doing dawah demands respect. Especially because who follow him are good people and they listen to you when you point them out for correction. Infact I've seen most of them turning the "salafi way". All I'm saying where One should benefit from his (or anyone's for that matter) work but be aware of his flaws/problems in his work/ideas etc .
