can you please give specific reason and refererence from Quran and Hadiths? There can be even 12 reasons as against to those of 6 reasons that a true scholar can have his Ijtihad.

first,it says "The door of independent judgements on the law is open, but at the present time there are six ‘Obstacles’ to entering it.",so,if anyone overcomes these obstacles then it is o.k..

there is a couple of ayath and hadis in the text, but most importantly, the whole text is compatible with quran and sunnah.

please, before objecting something, let's read it carefuly.

Sister Mezeren,

Then how can we say that people who:
1. Try to follow 4 Imaams plus the other forgotten Imaams.
2. and donot insist on blindly sticking to one Imam only
3. But follow any Imaam who has a stronger proof from Quran And Sunnah

are doing Ijtihaad ?

Aren't they in fact following all the Imaams instead of just one out of four ?

:salam2:

firstly,it is brother not sister.

secondly, yes,if you regularly follow the pattern you mantioned, you should be scholar in those areas such as hadis and fikh and etc. to choose between them.but, you can follow mainly one imam and when you face diffuculties in some cases you could follow other imams in that certain situations but you mainly stick to your mathap.of course this is for ordinary muslims like me.but if you or anyone have such a knowledge in islam then i have nothing to say.

Why people only talk of 4 Imaams ?
Who limited the number of Imaams to four ?
Shouldn't we also follow other Imams ?

Ibn Taymiyya in the Mukhtasar al-fatawa al-misriyya says:
al-a'imma ijtima`uhum hujjatun qati`atun wa ikhtilafuhum rahmatun wasi`a -- The consensus of the Imams [of fiqh] on a question is a definitive proof, and their divergence of opinion is a vast mercy... If one does not follow any of the four Imams [of fiqh]... then he is completely in error, for the truth is not found outside of these four in the whole shari`a.Ibn Taymiyya, Mukhtasar al-fatawa al-misriyya (Cairo, 1980) p. 35, 54

The Hanafi Madhab as of today has less than 50% of rulings by Imaam Abu Hanifa Rahimahullah, rest are by his students.

none of madhab is build up according to the opinion of an imam. each and every madhab is build up with the works of best scholars and students of that time.

That above post completely misquotes the Shaykh... I don't know which place you pulled that from.
On mnay ocasions he himself disagreed with the opinions of all 4 Imams..

A consensus - Ijmaa' is not based upon the 4 Imams, that is a very very poor understanding of Ijmaa', rather it is based upon the opinion of ALL living scholars from the beginning of a generation to the end of it!
