Reverting

Hello

I have been studying the Quran and Islam for almost two years now and I believe I am prepared to become a muslim, but I have one question to ask.
I have seen numerous websites claiming that two musim witnesses are needed to convert but I've also heard that you do not actually need witnesses. Which is true?
I know how to do Salaat and how to pronounce the Shahada, but the nearest mosque (and of course, muslims) is 3 miles away.
I hope to be able to meet and talk to more people on this forum and help me in my journey

Peace,

it's better that you have two witnesses, reason being that if you die they will be able to know that you were muslim and wash your body and bury you in the correct cemetry. that's one reason but this does not mean that if you do not make shahadah in front of two people that you can't be a muslim or that you're not a muslim. because you are, what counts is your niyah(intentions) and Allah swt knows what's in your heart. so make shahadah now to yourself or on here, then when you do get the chance go to the masjid and say your shahadah again just for the purpose of letting other muslims know that you're a muslim as well. peace.

here is a fatwa from muslim scholars:

My question is one concerning, when a non muslim wants to accept the Shahadah. Do witnesses need to be present? I remember a hadith mentioning a man who killed 99 ppl and was sent to heaven b/c of his intentions of coming towards islam?

Praise be to Allaah.

It is not essential for the one who wants to utter the twin testimony of faith (al-shahaadatayn) to have witnesses present. He may simply utter the words with his tongue, and that is sufficient for him to enter Islam.

Assalam-o-alikum brother.
Congratulations on your decision to revert to Islam.

To revert to Islam you do not need to have 2 witnesses. You can say the Shahadah alone with Allah (SWT) as your witness.

Take a shower or bath and then say the following phrase:
Ash-hadu an lá iláha illa Allah, wa ash-hadu anna Muhammadan Rassulullah

Which means that: I bear witness that there is no god except Allah (SWT), and Muhammad (SAW) is his messanger.

As soon as you say this with understanding and sincerity you become a Muslim. Then you will be as pure and sinless as a new born baby.

Since Masjid is not too far away from your house then you should go to the Masjid too and do the Shahadah in front of other Muslims as well. This way you will know many Muslims and they will know you, and whenever you plan to go for Haj or Ummrah a certificate from the Masjid will help you in getting the visa from Saudi embassey as they do not allow non-Muslims to enter Makkah and Medina. And also as sister Palestine has written ragarding proper burial is an another reason for other people to know that you are a Muslim now.

May Allah's mercy and blessings be upon you my dear brother and may he keep you protected from all kinds of evil and from shaytaan.
But remember Allah will still test you, so be firm in your faith and always ask for His help.

I am so very very very happy for you.
Waalikum assalam.

Hey everyone,

Thank you for all the help you've given me. Sorry I took so long to get back on here.
I did say my Shahada in private and have never felt happier. Im learning how to do salat and I think it's comming along pretty well. InshAllah I should have it down here shortly!
I cant wait to go to the Mosque and get to know more of the muslims from around where I live so I can learn more.
I went and got a book called "A Manual of Hadith" translated by Maulana Muhammad Ali and I love it.
Thanks again for the help and I hope to meet more of you on here.
