Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al-Maktoum, ruler of Dubai, called off multimillion-pound festivities late on Monday night. He said all public New Year’s celebrations should be called off “as a sign of solidarity with the brotherly Palestinian people and because of the death and destruction perpetrated on the Gaza Strip by the Israeli war machine”.
A host of other Arab nations cancelled celebrations in solidarity with Palestinians caught up in the fighting between Hamas and Israel.
Egypt cancelled official events, including a special concert by the Egyptian singer Mohammed Munir set to be held at Cairo’s Opera House and a variety performance hosted by the ministry of information due to be broadcast on state television.
Syria and Jordan also called off celebrations. Newspapers urged Jordanians to join a candlelight vigil in central Amman at midnight in place of cancelled celebrations to express their support for Gaza.

First of all why they even have those festivities set up .Its not Islamic holiday .Its not from the Sunnah of the Prophet,peace be upon him to celebrate New Year...Either Hijri New Year or Western New Year...

They should not celebrete at all the New year becasue Muslims do not celebrete new year,but "Muslims" do celebrete the new year.

Dear brother most of the members of this forum are very young. They hold opinions very quickly. As they are young they have little understanding of the recent past events.

The entire Muslim world used to celebrate western holidays until the 1980's. In a historically perspective they had just gained independence from the French and the British in the late 1940's to the 1960's. I remember that Muslim women would go the masjid in western suits. Alcohol was served at dinner parties. In the early 1970's there was a revival of Islam. And people came to their senses.
Therefore I am glad that the specific countries you mentioned made the motion. It is a large step for them.

As to hating the Jews. We are not to hate Jews. We are to hate oppressors. The Israeli's are the oppressors. Zionists. Not all Jews are Zionists.

Dear siser Alhadmulillah it is not that we only hate Jews zionists but Muslim heart also hate all those who are doing haram things and who are not obeying to orders of my Allah and my Prophet Mohammed s.a.v.s.

Sister..when one states that one is a Muslim we follow and obey out of love and fear for Allah. Yes, we are to hate haram. However, we are to love creation. I cannot hate His Creation. He has a purpose. I can not live a life that is closed. Islam is the faith of toleration. Be and let live.
Allah subhana kalla has the Right to hate. I do not hate Jews or Christians, or others. I remain with Muslims, first and foremost.
It is when those who oppress Muslims and others that I hate. Be the oppressed Muslim, Jew, Christian etc.
When we discuss history..it is important to understand contextually why certain events occured; as they do not occur in isolation. Case in point is the mess in the Middle East. It has been a battle for almost 1400 years. It did not start yesterday. We need to study and learn such that we do not make the same mistakes.

Finally, I have difficulty with using the phrase my Allah and my Prophet.
Allah subhana kalla is the God of the worlds and Mohammed, may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, is His Messenger. We can not personalize and limit Allah subhana kalla to ourselves. Allah subhana kalla is the God of everything and everyone.

Islam teaches us humility. We are to lower our gaze. When we are filled with hate..we are not humble. We are filled with envy.

We need to celebrate that the Light of Allah has come to the leaders of some Islamic countries and may they increase in the obedience to Allah subhana kalla.

It is through Love that we can show others the Light of Islam, not hate. If we look at our history some of the worst opponents of Islam became the foremost defenders of Islam..why because the Prophet, may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, was filled with Love.
