DANGER: BEWARE OF THE BLACK ANT

Salam alaikum dear brothers and sisters,

black ant.jpg

What ?? Is it poisonous? Is it gigantic? Is it deadly?

Well, it is deadly, but not in the literal sense. It's a heart disease that kills your good deeds and makes your heart "blind'' or rather "dead"

Hmmm, I'm afraid I don't understand what you're talking about.

Let me explain. I'm talking about riyaa' ( performing acts that are pleasing to Allah SWT with the intention of pleasing others than Allah). The Prophet PBUH compares riyaa' to a black ant crawling in the middle of a pitch-dark night on a soft rock. Can this ant be detected?
Not in the least.

Likewise, riyaa' can hardly be detected as it creeps into one's heart.

One can have an x-ray then or see a heart specialist, right?

No. Just beware of the following symptoms:
1- Love of praise
2- Fear of criticism or being looked down upon
3- Doing good deeds in public and evil ones when alone. In other words preferring people's admiration to Allah's pleasure
.

But how can we treat such a disease?

Here are some of the best ways:
1. Duaa! The prophet (sallallaahu `alayhi wa salam) taught the specific duaa for riya: [O Allaah, I take refuge in You lest I should commit shirk with You knowingly and I seek Your forgiveness for what I do unknowingly.]
2. Hiding one's good deeds. Do them where nobody can see!
3. Reflection upon's oneself's shortcomings.
4. Accompanying the pious ( good companionship helps in many ways ).
5. Being aware of the evil effects of riyaa' in one's heart.
6. Performing acts for the sole purpose of gaining Allah's pleasure
.

And always remember the following ayah which speaks of the response of righteous slaves when they feed people in need:

انما نطعمكم لوجه الله لا نريد منكم جزاء و لا شكورا انا نخاف من ربنا يوما عبوسا قمطريرا
Translation: We feed you only for the sake of Allah . We wish not from you reward or gratitude. Indeed, We fear from our Lord a Day austere and distressful. [Surah Al-Insaan, verses 9-10]

Jazak Allah khairan for this piece of useful information

Hope you find it useful as well.

SHOW-OFF

When the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) states clearly that this action is minor shirk, such as in al-Musnad (27742) where it is narrated that Mahmoud ibn Labeed said: The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “The thing that I fear most for you is minor shirk.” They said: “O Messenger of Allaah, what is minor shirk?” He said: “Showing off, for Allaah will say on the Day when people are recompensed for their actions: ‘Go to those for whom you were showing off with your deeds in the world, and see what reward you find with them.’” Classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in al-Silsilah al-Saheehah, 951.
