I got one for you!

Three friends check into a motel for the night and the clerk tells them the bill is $30, payable in advance. So, they each pay the clerk $10 and go to their room. A few minutes later, the clerk realizes he has made an error and overcharged the trio by $5. He asks the bellhop to return $5 to the 3 friends who had just checked in. The bellhop sees this as an opportunity to make $2 as he reasons that the three friends would have a tough time dividing $5 evenly among them; so he decides to tell them that the clerk made a mistake of only $3, giving a dollar back to each of the friends. He pockets the leftover $2 and goes home for the day! Now, each of the three friends gets a dollar back, thus they each paid $9 for the room which is a total of $27 for the night. We know the bellhop pocketed $2 and adding that to the $27, you get $29, not $30 which was originally spent. Where did the other dollar go????

Deceptive wording, wrong equation.

It doesn't mean that since they each got a dollar back that they paid $9 each for the room.

It is not 27 dollars for the night, it is still $25 ($30- $5= $25) divided among 3 friends, so that means, ($25/ 3) $8.333333 each. But since that sneaky bellhop got $2, then that means they paid $28 for the room (again not $27). Which is ($28/ 3) = 9.3333333 each, not $9 The .3333333, which multiplied by 3 makes $2, was stolen by the bellhop

....The friends pitched in for the room and the 2- dollar tip for the bellhop. No dollar lost, just logic so as not to deal with decimals...

I wonder what the bellboy said...

Why does everybody here think I'm a boy!:tantrum1:

...eh kidding

There are 5 houses in 5 different colors. In each house lives a person with a different nationality. The 5 owners drink a certain type of beverage, smoke a certain brand of cigar, and keep a certain pet. No owners have the same pet, smoke the same brand of cigar, or drink the same beverage.

Somebody owns a fish. The question is: who?

Hints:
The Brit lives in the red house.
The Swede keeps dogs as pets.
The Dane drinks tea.
The green house is on the left and next to the white house.
The green homeowner drinks coffee.
The person who smokes Pall Mall rears birds.
The owner of the yellow house smokes Dunhill.
The man living in the center house drinks milk.
The Norwegian lives in the first house.
The man who smokes Blends lives next to the one who keeps cats.
The man who keeps the horse lives next to the man who smokes Dunhill.
The owner who smokes Bluemaster drinks beer.
The German smokes Prince.
The Norwegian lives next to the blue house.
The man who smokes Blends has a neighbor who drinks water.

id like to explain this differently. after all the transactions been done.
here are the accounts.
Total Money Spent by the customers (A)
$30 - $3 = $27 = $9 x 3

money earned by the hotel manager (B)
$25

money stolen by the waiter (C)
$2

A = B + C
30-3 = 25 + 2 = $27 (accounts are balanced)

Now, id like to know why you are adding 2 to 27, when 27 already includes the $2 stolen by the waiter?
