MADINAH: Former boxing champion Mike Tyson, who embraced Islam while serving a prison sentence in the 1990s, is on his first visit to the Kingdom to perform Umrah. He arrived in the holy city of Madinah on Friday to perform prayers at the Prophet’s Mosque.

While in Madinah, Tyson met Dr. Muhammad Al-Oqala, president of the Islamic University, who briefed the world heavyweight champion on the services being rendered by the university to students from across the world.
From Madinah, Tyson will travel on to Makkah to perform Umrah, press reports said. He will also visit Jeddah, Abha and Riyadh as part of his Saudi tour. His visit to Saudi Arabia was arranged by the Canadian Dawa Association (CDA) as part of visits it organizes for new Muslim celebrities to the Islamic sites in the Kingdom. Shazad Mohammed, president of CDA, was present at Prince Muhammad International Airport in Madinah to receive Tyson.
Mohammed, an ambassador of peace with the United Nations, said Tyson would be in the Kingdom for one week, visiting the holy places as well as important landmarks in the country and meeting with Saudi people to get to know their culture and traditions.

I just want to know why is it more important what they do than anyone else? The main reason everyone wears white during ihram is to show that we're all equal.

not doubting brother's intention here...astagfirullah. But the scenario is : whatever known people do then it becomes a town talk, people like to know more of them. further celebs too like lime-lights.

anyways inshaAllaah we hope his umrah be solely for Allaah ta'ala and may Allaah accept his ibaadah.

Well there isn't any difference, but since Tyson became Muslim, a lot though it was for few days since then I personally didn't see any attitude from him which shows he is Muslim. its good move for him to visit the holy places this way he will understand Islam better that all, no big deal about him going to Umrah except its a good news for well known figure which can impact other to read about Islam that all !

you got a point akhi.but guess such news is given air so that they can attract more ppl to islam.i mean coz he's a celebrity.if he got fans they may think what made brother mike accept islam and they may want to study it too

It is not just that he is a celebrity but because of what he has endured, including being a celebrity, he fought it all for Islam. He was to fight the duyna as a young boy. He has had temptation and he had been seduced as a young man. The power of Islam has freed him. Insha'Allah, he will practice his faith like a man. That is why I rejoice.
