Salaams All

Christmas is round the corner and cards are being sent,Christmas parties being organised. Everyone is getting into the festive spirit and we as Muslims sometimes feel left out, either by choice or on purpose. Below is a poem which discusses some of the issues around this festival. Please feel free to publish and circulate as widely as possible. Jzk in advance.

Christmas dilemma for the Muslim

Christmas is here
Tis the season to be jolly
And happy
Peace and good will to all men and women
It’s finally here
But for Muslims it holds many fears
Dilemmas
And tears

How to reject Christmas cards without being rude
Whether to send any in return
To reciprocate greetings
Or just smile and nod and appear non-committal

Christmas party is the highlight of the year
All dressed up and equal
Mistletoe and wine
Women competing to kiss u
Coz u have managed to resist their charms thus far
And they know that u aint queer

Do u say no blatantly?
Or choose diplomacy
Accept, but not turn up
Due to a family tragedy

The choices are simple
Either u fit in
By compromising your iman
Or be the odd one out
By holding onto Islam

Get called names
Killjoy and fanatic
Shamed and marginalised
Subject of gossip, backbiting and slander
Promotion chances destroyed
Labelled a loner
Your career is a goner

Other Muslims quoted as examples
Mo who prays jummah without fail is coming
With his girl friend
So is Aysh who wears the hijab with her business suit
And plucked eyebrows and make up
They’re religious
British and Muslim
Both stand for the customery minutes silence
on 7/7 and 9/11
while u mysteriously disapear to the loo

Why do u have to be an extremist?
They participate
Why don’t u?

You follow Islam completely
No compromise
U know to participate
In the festive season
Is blasphemy
And treason against Allah
Who never had a son

U are convinced of Islam intellectually
And they are scared to debate
U refuted their arguments about evolution
And showed it to be a fallacy
But they persist
And insist
That they are right
As they take flight
Talking about u and sending emails
But they fail
To prove how the universe came into existence

U know that honesty and truth is the best policy
Instead of lying
And playing with words
So u tell them straight
Looking them in the eye
I am a Muslim
We do not celebrate the festivals of other religions

And u feel good knowing
That u have passed a big test
No regrets
And if Allah is pleased with u
Nothing else matters

Asalaamu Alaikum,

Mashallah sister/brother, this is an excellent poem :)

We can't even celebrate the birth of Muhammad(pbuh) or the birth of Islam or anything, so there's no double standards.

The Prophet (sallallahu 'alaihi wa sallam) has said: Do not over praise me as the Christians over-praised the son of Mary. I am His slave so say: 'Allah's slave and messenger' [Al-Bukhaari and Muslim]

MashaAllah brother... This is a wonderful poem, it clearly shows the dilemma for us Muslims living in the West during Christmas time.

I used to go to these parties because I felt that they were not truly religious but just social, and that it was a celebration for the birth of Prophet Issa (PBUH). But now I DO NOT go to these parties because now I believe that the foundation of these parties are still based on shirk. So I tell them that sorry I will not be able to come, and if someone labels me with a name then I don't care.

But I am not a convert, so I am not in a situaton where my parents or my own brother or sister or uncle are inviting me, and I am saying NO. Specially when parents invite then it becomes a different story, then you should go but do not participate in the haram stuff. Eating halal food is fine. Plus this is also a Dawah opportunity and you can also invite them on Eid to your home.

Also lately there is an another term which is being used which is "Holidays" or "Holidays Season".
When someone says "Happy Holidays" I say "Happy Holidays to you too". I don't think there is any problem in it. When I am invited to the "Holiday" party or New Year party, then I go there but do not stay late.

This life is a test and in the west the test is hard, but also loaded with huge amounts of reward opportunity.

Mashallah, this is a beautiful poem. I've always been afraid when my friends give me Christmas cards and greet me.

This really helps. :)

I'm not what you believe
salam alikum,I allow myself to say that there is no christmas dilemma for muslims.we muslims are too strong and we must be firm towards those who say to be right, because they surely know in some part of their heart that they are wrong, but they like to hide the truth filling the streets with lights and christmas trees. The Masihin every year buy little Jesus statues and they are convinced that he will be born on the 25th december....we must say NO to ignorance and false declarations about our beautiful and perfect religion.an amount of money will be spent to buy any sort of objects that are senseless, but they do it because of the strength of the social mind.they are like the sheeps:if they get close to each other, they form a shield, but if they are alone, they don't even say a word.
Don't worry brother, let them talk:theur words are like the water in the sand:astag:
