whats the punishment on alcohole and smoking from the quran???

I did several google searches using phrases such as " fatawas on smoking : haraam and fatawas smoking non haraam.

There are various sites including forums such as this that were cited.
Some argue that there is no direct mention in the Quraan thus there can be fatawa. Some argue that we have knowledge and should be able to apply it thus making smoking haraam.

Sister I think you have to consider that a google search could lead you to rulings that may be given by people who are unqualified and unreliable as well as qualified and reliable scholars. That's why it is important to be careful when googling around for rulings on such matters.

And as for the reasoning that there is no explicit mention of something in the Qur'an therefore it can't be haraam is poor, don't you think?
