I want to know more about the Islam...

Hi everyone,

I am a ( at this moment ) atheist. However, my boyfriend is a Muslim and as you all know this has no future as long as I am not a Muslim. So now I'm trying to understand what the Islam is all about. I am very in love with my boyfriend and I'm open for everything.. I've read some articles, saw some documentaries and it is clear for me, however, at some points I need to understand it a bit more...

Are there people here who were atheist before and turned Muslim? What means being a Muslim for a Western girl? What is the relation between men and women in the Islam? (at work/home) Can somebody help me with this? I would be very thankful!

Thanks a lot!!

Greetings M!

Thanks for your help. But that's another thing, most of the people who turned to Islam are former Christians... I guess it's harder to turn into Islam (or any religion for that matter) when you are a atheist... which means you first have to find God/Allah isn't it?

saifkhan

abd-Allah
salam 'alaikum warahamtu-llah

why you want to be a Muslim?
make it clear first, be honest to yourself.

remind it, Allah guides whom He wills and Allah guides who wants to be guided.
as you are new, there are a lot things that can't be applied to you at this moment, but you got to know.

why we need religion? at this moment only 1.2 billion ppl are Muslims, only, but the world is going on "smoothly" the world is right now at a state of "peace", so why we need God and religion.

glory to be Allah.

see sister, it is Fitra(human nature) to believe in a supreme being.

however, let me tell u something:

the greek word: Theos means God and we all know logos means the science or study.

so here comes: theology - study of God
Theist: who believes in God
when it comes with A+theist= Atheist : who doesn't believe in God
Monotheism: believing in Uniqueness of God, Islam
Polytheism: believing in many Gods
Pantheism: believing in everything is God

okay now, there must be believers first, to call or denote someone Dis-believers.
there must be theos (God)/theist(believer in God) first to someone to be A-theist (disbeliever in God)

however, if there is no God, then there is no set rules, no reward no punishment, then what is the point of someone to help someone or to harm someone?

for the sake of Humanity? (one can answer)

who sets the scale of Humanity?

a human?

the another Human can think the different way.

subhan Allah

example:
suppose, one guy, a very good guy good to everyone, everything he does good, he helps poor, who takes care of old and orphans, he gives a lot money to charity.
another guy, he is a criminal, he kills people for money, he doesn't respect anyone, he does everything bad and bad. And this second guy anyhow kills the first one and he dies a severe death, severe injury, the first guy being very generous, no one knows he was a good guy, but any how his name was involved in some bad works, and people start cursing him.
Other way, the bad guy, anyhow, being the owner of black money, people starts to ‘respect’ him and he dies a normal death and ‘respectful’ funeral.
So the question is: where they going to be judge?
Some people may claim, there is no God, it is all science and nature.
So cruel nature, who can’t even judge a simple case, and people have made it their God, la hawla wala quwwata illa bi-llah
Human being is the finest creation, subhan Allah, without any doubt. But why nature loves people, that the nature made human so perfect? And while we do harm nature? People may claim, thus nature becomes intolerable sometimes and harm people. Earthquake, flood, cyclone.
Subhan Allah, is there no bad people in the region of gulf? Earthquake flood cyclone never happens there. These are the natural calamities which happens with the will of Allah.
Sister, I’m not so knowledgeable, and not so good in writing, I can’t make it precise.
There are a lot lot things, it is not always easy to explain through writing, seek help from knowledgeable one.

Try: ‘no brainer’ lecture of sheikh yusuf estes
And there is no right for me to say, but I must say: there is no girl-friend, boy friend concept in Islam
If you really want to revert, do it for the sake of Allah and only for the sake of Him
This is the real taste of Islam, the uniqueness of Allah, testifying His uniqueness in His Being, His names and His attributes.
May Allah help you, may Allah expand your understanding, may He remove the obstacles between Him and you.
First, make it clear, the Oneness of Allah, insha Allah everything will be fine.
A lot people revert before getting the clear concept of tawheed(Oneness of Allah), and they either get back or pick a wrong way.
Remember, Allah guides whom He wills and He guides who wants to be guided, who strives for the truth.

Allahu a’lam. If I’ve said anything wrong, may he forgive me
Take time

Salam ‘alaikum

Thanks for your help. But that's another thing, most of the people who turned to Islam are former Christians... I guess it's harder to turn into Islam (or any religion for that matter) when you are a atheist... which means you first have to find God/Allah isn't it?

Well that was my question when I first read this thread! How in the world can you even think about religion when you dont even believe there is a God? That is a total contradiction! So first of all you need to realize there IS a God and go from there.

Let me just ask you as Quran asks us all: How do you imagine everything got here? Where did it all come from?

I challenge you to look at the sky and watch the clouds moving past. Then imagine that there is something BIGGER than the clouds and BIGGER than the mountains. How can you explain that feeling you get when you imagine and you feel sooooo small by comparison?

I challenge you to google the makeup of the human body. Explain how everything works in perfect order if there was not an intellegence which created it? I wonder what answer you would give if you were asked how can you imagine the link between all the functions of the human body and what if just ONE link was broken......would it work the exact same way as it did before? Also think about that for a moment if you will! If one of the links that makes up the human body breaks doesnt another link step in to fill its place so that life goes on? If you think about it in that way how can you explain everything without believing in God?

If you try to use science to explain things away that doesnt really work either because by reading Quran you will see that all science is linked back to Allah. Many scientists have gone forward with the sole purpose of disproving Quran when in fact at the end of the day they took their shahada's and became Muslim.

I would have to question if you are serious about getting to the truth by investigating religion or are you simply trying to please your boyfriend? It doesnt really work that way in most cases. Question your motives before anything else. Make sure you have an open mind about things because by saying "Im an atheist" that really doesnt leave you open to many other options.

Hi,

First, I must give you my salute over your dedication to finding out the truth and been open to everything.

Remember that Islam is a faith with its image most damaged by various things and medias. Don't let this things mistake you. Just because a couple of Muslims do evil things in the name of Islam doesn't mean Islam sent them to do this things. Dig the truth yourself, use your common sense and then see what Islam is about.

I am not Muslim yet I enjoy learning about Islam. It avoids so much confusion. My girlfriend is Muslim and we discuss about Islam and faith in general. If there is one thing I would remind you now and then is: if you want to convert to Islam, make sure you do so for you understand Islam is the right path for you, for it is full of truth and once all your questions and doubts have been answered. Converting just cos you are in love with your boyfriend is not such a good idea, in my mind.

Allah/God bless you in your search for true meaning of life.

I'm not converting to the Islam because of my boyfriend but because of him I got my interest in the Islam. My family is from both the Christian and the Jewish religion and therefore I have my background. However, my parents decided not to educate us with any religion. And of course I understand that converting to any religion must come from your own soul and heart and not to please someone, so that's not my intention.

At this moment I'm in the middle of not believing and believing as I honestly am really confused. It is hard to understand it when your family is from different religions and your parents are not believing at all, even though they grew up with a religion. I'm trying to find my own path in this and trying to find which way is right for me!

And yes, I'm staring at the sky for many times, many hours and I sometimes think that there must be a higher power, someone who invented this all. But still this leaves me with doubts... and although some religions are beautiful, I think that every religion has pro's and cons and things I don't understand in them. Because I have a Muslim boyfriend now I'm just trying to understand more what the Islam is about and if I can find myself in believing in God/Allah. But this doesn't mean I'm converting for him, I'm just finding my own way in this world and this life. What the best way is to live my life.

Assalaam walaikum,

Welcome to TTI.

You will need to understand that your boyfriend is being unfair to you. In Islam we do not have the boyfriend/girlfriend thing.

Now, lets talk about you.

You have been exposed to some elements of the sister faiths of Islam. Unlike, anything you have encountered in life Islam is a way of life. Once you embrace the faith it is a 24/7 thing.

What are the things that give you doubts. What are the components of the confusion.

And better yet: Why do you feel you need to believe. What makes you want to invest time in searching for a religion.

We are all here to help you find answers.

Peace,

I think reading/watching lectures by Hamza Tzortzis would be highly beneficial for you. He's one of the deep Philosphical thinkers, that most certainly attracts athiests. Alot of his arguements are based on rationality and intellect.

I'm sure by reading/watching his lectures, you'll be able to raise a few questions about your own current "Athiestic" beliefs.

I guess you have a lot of links to follow now. Here are a few that I have for you as well.

Interestingly the Islamic shahada or kalima (declaration of faith) is: "La illaha illalah, Muhammadur rasool ullah" which means "There is no God except Allah and Mohammad is His messenger"
So I guess being an athiest you affirm half of this declaration i.e. "There is no God ". We have to work on the rest. LOL.

I guess that I am a bit afraid. I'm at this point of my life where someone who believes opened my eyes.. I see things different now although I'm not sure what to believe... I'm kind of in between at the moment and therefore I want to know more about Allah/God so that I can find the right path for myself. I see the beautiful part of believing in Allah/God and the things you can't explain about life can be explained when there is a God. The unknown is what makes me scared of what is out there and normally I would read science about that etc. but now I just went to search for another path and that is believing.

I didn't knew that in the Islam there is no boyfriend/girlfriend thing... What do you do when you love someone?

The things that give me doubts are the things I guess many atheists think about: the need for covering your hair, the not looking men in the eyes (how can you work with men in this matter?) etc. that gives me doubts as I'm educated like an atheist and its difficult for me to understand these matters as in Christianity there is no such thing... I'm trying to find these things out because I also figured out that the Islam is a beautiful religion.

Thanks for helping me out you all!

Assalaam walaikum,

Let me thank you for responding. You are seeking the truth. And trust me you will find it, Insha'Allah.

( We always use Insha'Allah to preface action/intentions).

We will deal with the issue of what do you do when you love someone later.

It is written that Allah subhana talla is the one who blesses you with His call. You are hearing His command. And Alhumdullila you are responding.

In Christianity and Judaism women did cover until the end of WWII. Many Jewish women wore wigs before they stepped outside. Have you ever thought of why they had so many wig shoppes? Catholic women to this day wear a veil to church. The Jehovah Witnesses wear long skirts. The Amish and Mennonite women to this day cover.

When I started to cover I was scared. How do you work alongside men and not look them in the eye. Well..that was simple. Once you cover, the men lower their heads in respect. And there is no time for idle chit-chat. You become all about it. Also, as you avert your eyes, you demonstrate that you are listening to what needs to be said. It is serious. We can go into details later on this, too.

Here are some suggestions at help you at this stage:

1. Turn on Quran Explorer and listen to the suras ( chapters ) of the Quran in Arabic. Nothing stirs the soul more.
2. Relearn the stories of the prophets of Allah. Yeah..the stories are so similar. And for the atheist in you. Read the story of Noah alongside the epic of Gilgamesh.
3. If you are a science buff read how the Quran depicted the universe and that is in it..it's all there.
4. You are not an agnostic. You are an a(not) theo(God). You do know there is something out there. You have not labeled what it is.

Let me ask you this: What makes you think Allah is here/there/everywhere?

Insha'Allah, we wait for your response. And remember we are so excited about you..we are jumping with joy. ( Muslims are crazy like that).

I think you should forget the shariah laws for the moment. by laws i mean, covering hair etc. You should concentrate on basic Islamic beliefs and study the quraan and hadith. Who is Allah? Who is Muhammad? etc

Learn how painstakingly the texts were compiled and are present exactly as they were revealed. everything documented and classified.

Ultimately you have to decide if Islam is the truth or not. If you accept islam as the truth then the laws are just mechanics like the laws of your country/state. You follow them because you accept the constitution. Similarly following shariah law is imperative on Muslims because it proves that you accept Islam and it's teachings as the true.

here are some threads about basic islamic beliefs.

http://turntoislam.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=15
http://turntoislam.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=11

Another question is where these texts come from and how were they preserved? The following threads explain this

http://turntoislam.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=16
http://turntoislam.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=45

Also go through some of the miracles and prophecies in Quraan and hadith (the two islamic texts).

finally, we as Muslims believe that guidance (and everything else) comes from Allah alone i.e. nobody can become muslim through self study and using their own intellect, without Allah's blessing. So you should ask God (without any partners) to guide you to the truth.

Tabassum07

Smile for Allah
I'm just wondering what will the original poster feel about Islam or religion if their current boyfriend leaves her?? Will you still want to look for the truth? Or are you looking for the truth so you can make possible a future with a person you 'love'? I'm just saying that an intention needs to be made in your heart as to WHY you want to learn about Islam.

I'm sorry if I've said anything wrong, and I don't mean to be offensive.
