Just for the record, orange juice straight from the oranges has 3% naturally occurring alcohol in it.

True story.

Use Common sence! If there is no alcohol it's up to you if you need to drink it, or if something else is good...

hahaha this had me in stitches!! LOL I think this statement should be in every thread

Sheikh Yusuf al-Qaradawi (Qatar) once sparked controversy when he said that it's ok to consume a product that contains less than 0.0005 parts per million of alcohol. I'm not sure if this is true or not, clarification would be nice, O' fatwa warriors...

taken from wikipedia:

so it depends where u are, if in the middle east then there's no alcohol in it, but if you're in the UK then it contains alcohol.
waslam alikom

Walaikkum Assalam wa rahamatullahi wa barakatuhu,

Brother, al-Qaradawi is a disaster. Do not take his fatwa. He also gave a fatwa saying Christians and Jews believe in Allah and they are our brothers.
He also said that if Allah contested in Egypt elections, he wouldn't win as much percentage of votes as his party did. Astagfirullah. This guy supports democracy. He identifies his teacher to be Al-Ghazaali (sufi turned sunni at the time of his death).

He has many such calamities. So do not take from him. Stick to the major Ulema. However I don't know anything about the current topic. Just wanted to inform you of this.

Personally, I don't want to consume anything resembling a beer or smelling like it. I don't want to walk that thin line between haram and halal where it is debatable. My life is really fine without it. Guys, there is lot of other things to enjoy from the bounties of Allah.

May Allah guide him and us.

I remember have read somewere Muhammed saws used to drink wine, but he didn't wait for it, he did not let it gast (do you say so?) for more than 2 days...
If I can find were I read it I share it here.

People shouldn't be so hurry to say things are Haram, we should not forbid what Allah swt did not.

Asalamo`Alaykum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Baarakaatuh,

With all due respect ukht, Please watch your words. May Allaah have mercy on our souls. We must NOT speak without knowledge. The Prophet:saw:, like the other prophets was Maasoom. His lips never 'touched' wine. That drink he drank is called nabeez and it is wrongly translated as 'wine'.

Do read the following to understand:

Question:

A friend of mine sent me an e-mail which I wanted to get feedback from you. Apparently it suggests that the Prophet Muhammad drank wine. Here is his email:

Sahih Muslim: "Drinks, Drinking wine and fermentation" Narrated by Gaber bin Abdullah: We were with the messenger of Allah, PBUH and he asked for a drink. One of his men said: "Oh Messenger of Allah, Can we offer you wine to drink?" He said Yes. He (Gaber) went out looking for the drink and came back with a cup of wine. The messenger (Peace Be Upon him) asked:”Have you fermented it, even with one piece of ferment?” He (Gaber) said "yes" and he (Muhammad) drank. Sahih Muslim - Hadith #3753,

Narrated by Abdullah bin Masoud (May God be pleased with him): He was with the Messenger of Allah peace be upon him on the night of the jinn when he asked him if he had water. He answered that he had wine in a pot. Mohammed said: Pour me some to do ablution and he did. [The] Prophet peace be upon him [said]: "O Abdullah bin Masood it is a drink and a purifier." Answer:

As-Salaamu 'Alaikum Wa Rahmatullaahi Wa Barakaatuhu

We acknowledge receipt of your query. Our answer is as follows:

On a precautionary note we would like to mention that it is extremely dangerous for one to translate the Ahadith of Rasulullah salallallahu alaihi wasallam without acquiring the required knowledge, one is in need of, as a prerequisite. The Quran and Hadith are the foundations of our religion and one needs to be diligent in their translation and explanation as small errors can sometimes have a dreadful affect.
The statement: “Prophet Muhammad(s) drank wine” is a rather abhorrent statement to make regarding the prophet Muhammad sallallahu alaihi wasallam. The messengers of Allah Ta’aala are sinless and can never act contrary to laws of Allah Ta’aala. Allah Ta’aala has emphatically declared wine to be haraam in the Holy Quran and the Prophet of Allah sallallahu alaihi wasallam voiced the same. How is it then possible that He sallallahu alaihi wasallam can consume wine? (See Holy Quran Surah Maidah verses 90-91)

Furthermore, it is written in the books of sirah (life biography of the Prophet) that on the occasion of m’iraaj (ascension to the heavens) the Prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam was offered wine, water and milk as a drink by Jibreel alaihi salaam (the angel). The prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam chose to drink milk upon which Jibreel alaihi salaam commented: you are rightly guided and your Ummah will be as well. (Seerat ibne Hishaam p: 158)
Even before wine was made unlawful and forbidden to consume, the Prophet of Allah sallallahu alaihi wasallam’s nature was so pure that he abstained from drinking wine.

Negligence and lack of sufficient knowledge sometimes leads a person to make such statements that are contrary to the truth and further yet propelling it to others.
It is incorrect to translate Nabeez as wine. The correct translation of nabeez is that drink which has been sweetened by putting dates, grapes or honey (flavoured water with these items) in it but has not reached the stage where it is fermented and becomes an intoxicant. (Al ta’reefaatul Fiqhiyah pg 225)

The correct format and translation of the two Ahadith is presented here:

Jabir ibn Abdullah radhiallahu anhu narrates, we were with the Prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam. The Prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam asked for something to drink. One of the companions asked: O Prophet of Allah, shall we not give you nabeez to drink? The Prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam said yes, why not! This companion left quickly and came back with a cup of nabeez. The Prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam said, why didn’t you cover the cup even though it may have been with a stick. Thereafter he drank from it.

Abdullah ibn Mas’ood radhiallahu anhu narrates, I was present with the Prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam on the night of jinn (The messenger sallallahu alaihi wasallam visited them to convey the Deen of Allah and propagate the truth). The Prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam asked me: O Abdullah do you have any water? I replied I have some Nabeez in a container. The Prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam instructed me and said: pour the water and he performed ablution. Thereafter He sallallahu alaihi wasallam said, O Abdullah ibn Mas’ood, it is a purifier and a drink.

Once again, I advise one and all to acquire knowledge pertaining to the Deen but carefully and diligently. Muhammad ibn Sireen rahimahullah has said: "Knowledge is the basis of your Deen. So choose carefully who you acquire it from." (Muslim)
And Allah Knows Best

The issue is not if it's named wine or something else, like in the case of Muhammed saws. Maybe they should rename it and call it as the propeth saws used to call it. And forgive me, for not finding the correct word for that, as the propeth saws used to call non alcoholic drinks similair to "wine". Still the issue is not wether it's called wine or something else, does it contain alcohol is the issue.

..as so is the case with many so called beverages named non alcoholic wine, non alcoholic champagne etc. I do not now of every beer etc but if it contains no alcohol WHY would it be Haram?? That is the question now.

Respected brother, I'm very sad to read your comment about our own scholars. Some of his fatwa may be flaws, but making such remarks about him is uncalled for.

:wasalam:

Brother, I am not giving my comments or my view about the so-called "scholar". There are many other Ulema who have warned against him and we know that Ulema overlook the small mistakes. However, Al-Qaradawi's mistakes are not small. He has grave mistakes which misleads people. I am quoting from Shaikh Muqbil bin Haadee Al-Waadi'ee (Rahimahullah) who stated in his refutation of the Wicked Muftee in the book "Silencing the Hounding Dog",

"On this day I was informed by the brother, Saalih al-Bakri that he heard some words of (al-Qaradawi) in a cassette that he says that this Jew (i.e. the Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu) was victorious by 99% of votes and that Allaah cannot even achieve this, even if the people voted for Allaah, He would not be able to acquire 99% of the votes. These words are clear and manifest misguidance. If he wished to make a Jew superior to Allaah, free is He from imperfection, the Most High, then he is a disbeliever (i.e. apostate). And if he intended that the Jews and Christians and the worshippers of the cow and chickens and others are very many in number yet they do not vote for Allaah, then this is another matter, however it is still clear misguidance (on al-Qaradawi's behalf).

For verily our Lord, the Mighty and Majestic, is not in need of voting, for He, free is He of all imperfection is the one who says "Be" to something and it is. He is the one who destroyed Firaun, and He destroyed Qaarun, and He destroyed many nations, from amongst those who exceeded beyond bounds and who stood in the faces of the Prophets of Allaah, the Mighty and Majestic. So he aided the Prophets and gave them victory, in this life and the next.

Voting is only needed by a weak man, O Pauper!. Have you disbelieved O Qaradawi or have you brought yourself nearer? And after that this Aqeel al-Maqtari comes along, may Allaah not bless him, and he honoured and welcomed Yusuf al-Qaradawi, just as he honoured and welcomed Muhammad Suroor… " (Silencing the Hounding Dog, pp.110-112).

Stated Shaikh Ibn Uthaimeen after these words were played to him, "I seek refuge in Allaah. It is obligatory for this person to repent. And if he does not he should be killed as an apostate, since he made the creation more knowledgeable than the Creator. It is upon him to repent to Allaah, so if he repents, then Allaah forgives the sins of His servants. And if not then the Wullaat ul-Amr should strike his neck (with the sword)." (Cassette Recording, quoted in Silencing the Hounding Dog, p.119).

I didn't provide my proof and quote all this because it might lead to more fitna and argument between us. I don't want to argue over people. But, dear brother, I am just request you to find about people before you claim them as "our"' scholars. Lets take from Ulema who are reliable and forget all that who are debatable and controversial.

Assalaam walaikum,

Wow...this thread is all over the place.

The consumption of alcohol is world wide. That is not our issue. What I think the issue presented is can you consume non-alcoholic beer or wine.

There is no definite answer. The alcohol content level keeps popping up.

One of the photos posted showed a bottle of cider. Cider is not alcohol. Ginger beer has no alcohol. Hard cider is alcohol.

If it is not labeled alcohol than it is not alcohol. Can it be that simple. A bottle labeled poison; well we would not drink from that. If it is not labeled poison we can drink from it. And that which would make us doubt ...I don't know about you guys but I would refrain from it. I would not like traces of poison in my bloodstream.

In all intents and purposes what this is, is trying to look cool trying to imitate the kufr kids who do drink alcohol (like somebody else said above). I ask again why in the world would anybody drink this when it looks like a bottle of beer etc EVEN if it has 00.00% alcohol in it?

Each to their own.

itsnot about jumping down his throat,,but this is a different case from eating burgers or fries..etc

drinking non alcoholic beer has become very popular across arab ountries,,and you see young poeple drinking it to look cool,,,
justas in the west it would be non alcoholic beer

why the needfor this when we have huge range of fizzy drinks

why does it have to look like a beeer bottle,,could have different pakaging,,,thats why we say its copying the west,,its idential copy from the outside,,,

If we are about to argue about this than we will soon not be able to walk outside our homes. Because in everything there is a similarity to west. And vice verse.. Then I won't be able to by my clothes here in the west, because the kuffar shops there.
I think we must use our common sence. If there is no alcohol in a drink and I want it, I will have it. No matter what the bottle looks like.

agree on the point of te youth trying to show off holding etc....

When i drink it, i drink it in private, away from the eyes of men...

as ppl could get a wrong impression of it...

so i agree about the imitation of kuffaar thing, but for those who just like the drink, drink it away from the eyes of men, as it could cause suspicion....

during ramadhaan we brothers were knocking this drink out... Its an energy drink.

Tho i must stress, when we drank it, we made sure it was away from the eyes of men.....

plus we sometimes put it in another drink bottle, one of those water bottles....

I was not attempting to answer the initial question with the fatwa I provided, so your issue isn't really my issue.

My issue was you saying the Prophet of Allaah drank "wine" and I wanted to correct you. Though your intention must not have been to slander the prophet:saw: with such a thing, you unintentionally did that. So I jumped in.

Forgive me for my slightly off topic post.

Yes, smells and taste like beer, it is beer except no alcohol. When I was following Buddhism, I was taken to a temple. I was served with chicken, squids, lamb etc.. all strictly vegetarian... yes they are soy made but called vegetarian chicken, vegetarian lamb, vegetarian fish ball etc. Similarly now we have "halal beer".... the objective seem to be the same.
