AR-RAHMAN (The Most Merciful): Allah is the One who wills His Mercy and Goodness upon all his creation, uninterrupted, continuously, with consistency, at all times, without condition, without limits, without distinction between the good and bad, the faithful and the rebellious, the beloved and the hated. As He Himself states in the Glorious Quran: “My punishment – I afflict with it whom I will, but My Mercy encompasses all things” (Surah Al-A’raf: 156). When Allah completed the creation, He wrote the following verse, which is with Him on His throne (Arsh): “My mercy overcomes My wrath”. The greatest of Allah’s Mercy upon us is the creation of our beloved Muhammad (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) as expressed by Allah Himself in the Qur’an: "We sent thee not (O Muhammad), but as a mercy for all creatures” (Surah Al-Anbiya – 107). Mercy within us begins with a fineness of feeling, a concern felt in the heart when one knows someone is in distress and the pressure of this pain moves up to help the person to alleviate their suffering. Allah’s Mercy is beyond all these conditions and surrounds our very own existence from before we are born until after death overtakes us, like an unseen, unobserved and virtual force-field. Ponder the foetus in the womb, how it is blanketed with layers and layers of cushion-like tissue. Ponder the vulnerability of the infant to its very own surroundings and how Allah has made its body more tolerant. Ponder the adult, how in its prime, is strong enough to bear the knocks, twists and strains of daily life. Ponder the elderly person, who is now weak and feeble and How Allah by now has given Him/ Her enough experience to take him to the furthest limits of the remainder of life. The manifestation of this name of Allah within yourself is by using your freedom of choice for the goodness of yourself and of others. Feel the pain of the misguided one as well as those who are unfortunate, not with condemnation, but with pity and assistance and find conform and hope in Allah’s promise that His compassion by far surpasses His wrath.
