Apologies for using the word "black" instead of African-American. I just wanted to keep the title short.

And, conversely, how many NOIists are reverting to true Islam each year?

Salam,

I am married to a man. He is wonderful. We have two glorious sons. (Allhumdullila). He is African- American, which is a politcally correct term that is used by the media, in textbooks, and by statiticians. Black is the word used by the average joe. Negro is the word used by old folks, sometimes you hear colored. The rappers use the n word...
in reatlity, i have a wonderful husband who is 100% man and two sons who will become 100% men. Inshalla. (right now they are normal stinky boys)
We do not greet each other as Asian/ Non-Pacific Island Not Middle Eastern/From the Subcontinent African Americans. We are happy to be Muslims. It makes more sense.
Now please educate me and tell me what NOIA is.

all that i can really say, is that the NOI is pretty much just about finished. about 40 years ago they may have had numbers in the upper 100.000s but today are reduced to 80,000 or so. that number dropped because they had finally become exposed to true islam in the mid-70's. the NOI members are not really muslim if you want to compare it to islam. it's really a black supremicist group that believes blacks are superior and that white people are devils.

so, i don't think that there are many black reverts joining the nation of islam. again, even though islam is in their group's name they are not muslims. just like christian science has nothing ro do with christianity.

I know a couple who 'reverted' to NOI, they are weird, in their beliefs etc. For example they dont believe in hadith because they say it is the word or actions of a man therefore a man is due to make mistakes so we follow Quran only because it is the word of God and cant contain mistakes. We cant say they are reverts really because they are leaving christianity to go into another false sect.

They dont grow beard, they have females singing and giving talks in their 'churches,' etc and there is everything wrong with them. They are telling us more of what they believe and the more the say the more we realise how lost they are. They are too much involved in slavery, slave trade etc, knowledge that doesnt benefit them in anyway

We asked them things like the Quran doesnt describe how one should pray so how do you know how to pray? This couple prays the same way we pray, i.e same actions going into ruku etc. It seems like they are slowly listening to the dawah and Inshallah they are coming to our house again this weekend, and we will be talikng to them again.

Salam,

the nation of islam has its website and a newspaper..the messanger. they were vital in assisting black communities become independent. there were many disputes in the nation itself.
farrakhan has retired. the nation is looking for direction.
it is too simplistic to state that they are too interested in slavery. the nation was a response to the evils of slavery. and many exist today. the nationa made many contributions. as muslims we need to appreciate what the nation did for black americans. they advocate an independence for mainstream america. malcom x was the most famous and after his hajj he stated the nation was wrong and he became a fundamental muslim.
are they muslims...no..there is some talk of the nation wanting to bridge the gap...
if this is a serious endevor it would be worth your while to speak to the nation itself. please keep in mind percentages really do mean anything. isalm is the religion that is growing..not the nation.

well Prophet Muhammed (SAW) did everything that was needed to free balck people from slavery . the things that Nation of Islam did was just to attract black people to the fitnah of false prophet. we as the fundamentalist muslims should never support nation of islam. regardless of what they did or what they dint do. I have african muslim friends (Brother in islam) and they hate nation of islam (Ilijah mohammed) as much as they hate ahmediya(Gulam mirza) or submitters internationals(Rashaad Khalifa) . because they are dajjal (False prophets). and these are the big signs which leads to the DAJJAAL(Anti-christ). and they give bad impression to non-muslims because their teachings are very much twisted. one case i had was a hindu guy was not happy with islam and he asked about every thing so i had to clarify the true teachings from false . he asked about ahmediya group . because he met one guy who followed that group. so these False group shows wrong teachings to non-muslims.

The biggest example of freedom to African People in the time of prophet muhammed (SAW) is the example of one of the greatest sahaabah(Companion of Prophet (SAW)), Billal (RA) who offered first Adhan(Call to prayer) to muslims

Walaikum Assalaam.

Brother Ahmad,

Please understand that I have worked in the ghettos and the members of the NOI made it possible for me to be able to walk down the street without being attacked.
The people who were kidnapped and sold into slavery were robbed of their identity. The church became the only institution to assist people out of the misery of slavery. There is a lot of confusion about the church.
The Nation of Islam when it is seen as a political movement makes sense. It was created to assist an independent black nation. However, as with all fasle ideologies it is fading away...
The Nation is cultish. It is extremely closed. It is not Muslim.
But, I can not take away the work the Nation did to make the streets safe for women and children in very poor neighborhoods that were driven by crime.
Very few blacks know the stroy of Bilal. You have given me an idea and I will speak to everyone about the story of Bilal. Here, they have Black History Month. Next February I might make a huge poster to hang in the public library.
Thank you for taking the time to respond.

Three famous African American Muslims began their journey in NOI

  • Muhammad Ali
  • Malcolm X
  • Kareem Abdul Jabaar

Once they realized the TRUE Sunnah Islam, they adopted it.

Warith Deen Muhammad, the son of the founder of NOI Elijah Muhammad, started the change and his followers became practicing Sunni Muslims during the 80s.

The current NOI and its leadership is not related to true Islam. Hopefully someday their followers will realize that they have been misguided and will get back on the straight path.

mashallah it is good what they did for the woman. but the issue of these groups is very sensitive for muslims. dont you think if these people had followed the sunnah and true teachings of islam than they would have got all these things as good deeds. instead of making farrakaahn as shirk . You know that Allah will never forgive shirk (Allah says in quran). Why to make these kind of groups when in Islam all colours are same in front of Allah. I just hope inshallah more and more people turn to true teachings of Prophet(SAW) the sunnah and the command of Allah from Quran. and the only reason the black, Negro Racism is left until this day is because of the crusades and all after when the muslim Empire had failed to resist. not to forget that muslim Empire had done wrong to themselves by fighting within. which we still do until this day. these problems will only sort out when we all the muslims learn to respect each other. and not divide into different groups and specially by stop commiting shirk. Anyway try your best to bring these people to the straight path.

and make dua for them. may Allah help and guide these people. Ammeen

Salam,

The problems of Black America belong to them. I will make dua, indeed. However, Islam is my love. When a heart becomes cold and does not listen to the call of Allah..there is no hope. Since I have started wearing my hijab I get the "look" from all kinds and categories of Americans. Islam allows me to love others not for physical beauty, the color of skin, but, because we know we are of the single soul all being the slaves of Allah, worshiping Him, until the Day. As a Muslim I bid everyone Salam, however, if you choose not to listen to me.. I move Inshalla, step by step on the Path of those who Believe.

The Nation of Islam Exposed

By. A. I. Palmer

Louis Gene Walcott Farrakhan is not a Muslim, nor is his doctrine Islam. Farrakhan is the leader of a black racist cult called "the Nation of Islam," (NOI) founded in Detroit, Michigan in the 1930's. While the group calls its followers Muslims, in reality, they have very little to do with the faith of Islam. Islam believes in the total transcendance of almighty God (called in Arabic, Allah), the NOI teaches that black people are angelic gods. Islam maintains universal brotherhood, the NOI says that Islam is for blacks only. Islam teaches that prophethood ended with Muhammad ibn Abdullah, more than 1400 years ago. The NOI teaches that Farrakhan's teacher, Elijah Muhammad, is the last prophet. Islam teaches principles of spiritual and moral decorum such prayer, fasting, charity, pilgimage, etc., Elijah Muhammad cast these out or altered them beyond recognition.

Yet, it is an error to oversimplify the issue by denouncing Farrakhan's racist diatribes while playing down Farrakhan's God-is-a-man and Prophet-after-Muhammad beliefs. Racism has very little to do with the issue. Sure, racism is contrary to Islamic principles and Islam rejects it. However, the deviation of Elijah Muhammad and Louis Farrakhan are MUCH more serious than racism. It is the sin which Allah DOES NOT forgive. If Farrakhan would leave his man-is-god and prophet-after-Muhammad beliefs, but was still a raving racist, he would be much better off than the other way around! Let me say very clearly, that there is NO ideology on the face of this earth which could be farther from Islam than that of Louis Farrakhan. NONE!

The NOI's origins are found in

(a) two black self-improvement movements that began shortly before World War I: the "Moorish Science Temple of America," founded in 1913 by Timothy Drew, and the "Universal Negro Improvement Association," founded in 1914 by Marcus Garvey.

(b) the NOI was also shaped by a Depression-era con-man, and convicted drugdealer, Wallace Dodd Ford. Upon Ford's 1929 release from California's San Quintin Prison, he moved to Detroit to start a new life. Ford used a number of names, including Wali Farad and Master Fard and claimed to be from Mecca, Arabia. Being that Ford's parentage was a mixture of white and South Pacific Maori, he used his skin color and his prison con skills to pass himself off to blacks as a "mystic" and a "prophet" from the Middle East.

Working as a door-to-door rug salesman by day, Ford blended the ideas of Garvey and Drew along with a smattering of Islam, to form what would later become the Nation of Islam. Among his first students was an unemployed Georgia migrant worker, Elijah Poole, who Ford renamed "Elijah Muhammad." In later years, Ford disappeared and Elijah assumed leadership of the NOI which he held until his death in 1975.

Elijah developed an convoluted belief system based on ideas extracted from everything from Christanity to Masonry to Islam. He elevated Ford's status to that of the Creator of the heavens and earth, and he developed a myth which he dubbed, "Yacub's History." This racist doctrine is still maintained by Louis Farrakhan.

In brief, the doctrine states that the first humans, a race of black people, whom the NOI calls 'the Original Man,' created white people in a genetic experiment 6,000 years ago. Elijah claimed that they (the whites) would rule the world for 6,000 years and then be destroyed at the 'end of their time' by the blacks. He said that 'Judgement Day' means that at the 'end of time' the Gods (i.e., blacks) would destroy the entire white race (devils) and then establish a Paradise (nation) on this earth ruled forever by the blacks (i.e., Gods).

For a number of years, Farrakhan has managed to present himself as a champion for the oppressed masses, this also is a distortion. Like his teacher, Farrakhan has for more than 35 years engaged in hoodwinking blacks out of money in the name of black self improvement. The only self-improvement however, that has taken place has been for Farrakhan's family and their associates.

Additionally, his entire inspiration for the "Million Man March" is based on his alleged, "vision of being swept into a UFO that took him to a larger mothership." While in the UFO, he claims to have spoken to the late Elijah Muhammad before being beamed back to earth. (The Washington Post, Sept. 18, 1995, p. D3).

What many do not realize, is that Farrakhan has repeated this doctrine for more than 35 years! Indeed, Farrakhan's UFO "vision" is an inseparable, doctrinal link to the heretical claims of Elijah Muhammad. Elijah explained that blacks were originally, "moon people" and that the UFO "mother wheel" was piloted by 13 youths who perpetually orbited the earth, waiting to unleash global destruction on whites, while rescuing all blacks. Farrakhan to this day, teaches this same doctrine- his inspiration for the Million Man March. The Million Man March in fact, was planned with the following goals in mind:

(a) To hold it in Washington, and aim for a turnout of one million, so as to surpass the number of attendees at Martin Luther King's 1963 March on Washington, and thereafter be promoted as being greater than Dr. King and Malcolm X.

(b) By being mentioned in the same context with Dr. King, Farrakhan hopes to be remembered likewise as a charismatic, messianic black figure who commands a large and politically significant following among US blacks.

(c) To remove the cloud of suspicion which still surrounds Farrakhan regarding his involvement in Malcolm X's assassination.

(d) Most importantly, Farrakhan has to find a new way to pay for his and his family's ornate palaces in Chicago and Phoenix, his Lexus, Mercedes, Rolls Royce and Lincoln Town Cars, a Mexican villa, a new 77-acre Michigan estate and over $1.5 million dollars in unpaid back taxes. This is the reason he had an $11 registration fee, a $3.99 per minute 900 number for call-in registration (Average call is three minutes), a $700 vendor's fee, (reduced from $1000), and even ads in his newspaper soliciting for "donations" to "help defray the astronomical costs of the march," in exchange for listing the donor's name and city under appropriate categories (Platinum, Gold, etc.): $1000 or more (Platinum), $500 or more (Gold), $100 or more (Silver), $25 or more (Patron) not to mention $2 "special issues" of his 'Final Call' newspaper. Louis. A true high-tech con-man. You want to see Louie's real vision?: $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$.

It is thus impossible for anyone to try to make a distinction between Farrakhan and his UFO inspiration, or "endorse the goals of the march without endorsing Farrakhan," or say that Farrakhan is greater than Malcolm X. Malcolm's greatness was as a result of his renouncement of Elijah's false teachings, and his acceptance of true Islam, factors which Farrakhan has yet to achieve.

My book, exposing the 65-year legacy of the NOI, is scheduled for publication soon, entitled, "The Emperor Has No Clothes." If I can be of further assistance, don't hesitate to contact me.
