Nothing Remains Except the Shoulder

“Aisha (radi Allahu anha) narrated that they slaughtered a goat and the Prophet (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) asked: ‘How much of its meat remains?’ They replied: ‘Nothing remains except the shoulder piece.’ The Prophet (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said: ‘Everything remains except the shoulder piece.’ [Tirmidhi]

This hadith is in accord with the words of Allah (subhana wa ta’ala) in the Quran: “Whatever is with you is perishable, and whatever is with Allah is permanent.” [Surah Nahl: Ayat 96]

Aisha (radi Allahu anha) had distributed the meat of the goat among poor people and hadn’t saved any of it for themselves, except for the shoulder piece. The Prophet (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) informed her that the meat given away was actually the meat that was saved for them (in their account with Allah).

What we spend in Allah’s cause comes to our credit on the Day of Judgement, and Allah (subhana wa ta’ala) will exchange it with the choicest of blessings in Jannah, in-sha-Allah.

When a man spends his salary on different items of expenditure, he allots its major portion to such items as are perishable. He thinks of them as dues from which there is no escape. Allah (subhana wa ta’ala) informs us that the wealth which we spend in the cause of Allah is such that never perishes.
