I'm Mohamed Roshan, And I'm from Sri Lanka.
All I have to say is Alhamdulilla! and I'm glad that I found this beautiful community with lots of Islamic resources.

How is Islam in Sri Lanka? I read the Muslims were persecuted in parts by the Tamils?

Alhamdulillah Islam in Sri Lanka is growing slowly but steadily. People in Sri Lanka who has become muslims do not disclose their faith in public because of the fear of persecution by their community(non muslims)
I'v heard some of buddhist monks became muslims but practicing Islam in secrecy.

During the daytime they appear as buddhist monks. But when they are alone they offer salat in their rooms. Alhamdulillah!

The problems we face in Sri Lanka is not by Tamils. Its with Sinhalese the majority.

But we muslims in Sri Lanka still practice our faith in public without any major harassments Alhamdulillah!

It's sad what's going on there and other places around the world, but what you say is so inspiring. May Allah, Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala, help my brothers and sisters everywhere who are facing hardships and oppression. My heart goes out to them. I hope you will stay with us for a long time to come.

Tamils persecution was in areas in middle country where they showed their wrath with those muslims who sided with government and against the 'hindus' at the time of terrorist problem, but the current threat we are facing is from the extremists Buddhists, who spread racism, now in a propaganda to ban Halal certification, slaughtering of cows (esp. the time of Eid) and also in bringing down mosques cos it makes their so called 'pure and sacred country' impure, which is in the recent task of opening new casinos and expanding bars!! :( . A sad situation but indeed, with every tribulation is a blessings, so this is a time Allah has chosen to bestow mercy and blessings on us, to make us awake for the deceptions aroud us, to make all Muslims unite :)

Jazakallah khiran sister,

I enjoy being with this community day by day.
Its true.It maks me upset too. What we can do along with it is make dua and forgiveness on behalf of them. Surely Allah is watching us and listening to what we ask from him.
