Question: Job Permissibility?

Asalaamu'Alaikum,
I am trying to find out for a friend the permissibility of working for a company that is mainly involved with making/creating arms and selling them to companies globally including Muslim countries and non Muslim countries that use them to kill Muslims.
The companies main areas of business are Defence (80%) and remainder Space/Travel.
He would be working in the IT division and would have no direct involvement with the defence areas of business.
He has asked a few well known scholars who said it would be deemed permissible but wasn't able to get any elaboration/clarification as to how it was exactly permissible.
The company is also involved in talks with creating an office in Tel Aviv...

What are the reasons it would deemed permissable?

As a lamen person the fact they make arms and their main customers are countries such as Israel would make me think it would be haraam or strongly discouraged however the brother has well known scholars who have said its fine as a long as not dieectly involves...
