Part 4: Details of Bismillah

After asking Allah to protect us from external threats (Istia'dha OR Audhubillah) the next logical phrase is to ask Allah to bless us with the right internal thoughts, and that is with "Bismillahir-Rahmanir-Rahim" (The Basmala).

In this episode Shaykh Dr. Yasir Qadhi gives a translation of the Basmala, needing Allah's help to be sincere (Ikhlas), needing Allah's help to complete (Barakah) and needing Allah's help to accept our deeds.

Part 8 : The term Alhamdulilah & Hamd vs Shukr

The Prophet (ṣallallāhu 'alayhi wa sallam) would regularly make a supplication to Allah (subḥānahu wa ta'āla) in the middle of the night bowing down in prostration 'How exalted are You O Allah! I cannot do justice in praising You the way You deserve to be praised. Verily, only You can do justice in praising Yourself!'

Our Prophet (ṣallallāhu 'alayhi wa sallam) constantly realised the Majesty and Honour deserving to Allah (subḥānahu wa ta'āla), how often do we realise the greatness of our Lord in our prayers and our daily activities.

In this special Ramadan series episode of the Tafsir of Surat al-Fātiĥah Shaykh Dr. Yasir Qadhi discusses...

• The magnificence of the praise Alhumdulilah.

• What is the difference between Hamd and Shukr

Part 9 : Why did Allah choose "Alhamdulillah"

"And if you should count the favors of Allah, you could not enumerate them." ~ [Surat An-Naĥl, verse 18]

Our lives are consistently and completely dependent on the blessings of Allah (subḥānahu wa ta'āla). Many people, due to their perception of life or their circumstances, feel self dependent and fail to see that they are receiving Allah's bounties every moment of their life.

Indeed we will never be able to count all of His blessings upon us, since they are innumerable!

In this special Ramadan series episode of the Tafsir of Surat al-Fātiĥah Shaykh Dr. Yasir Qadhi discusses...

• Why did Allah choose the phrase "Alhamdulillah" for Himself

• The meaning of "Rabb"

Part 10 : "My servant has praised Me"

Abu Hurayrah (raḍyAllāhu 'anhu) narrated that the Prophet (ṣallallāhu 'alayhi wa sallam) said that Allāh (subḥānahu wa ta'āla) has said "I have divided the prayer between Myself and My servant into two halves, and My servant shall have what he has asked for..."

Salah (prayer) is a personal conversation between the slave and his Master between the worshiper and the Lord of the Heavens and the earth.

How often do we take heed of what we are saying in Salah and how often are we aware that Allah (subḥānahu wa ta'āla) is responding to us when we recite Surat al-Fātiĥah in our Salah!

Join Shaykh Dr. Yasir Qadhi as he unlocks the secret to Salah in this special Ramadan series episode of the Tafsir of Surat al-Fātiĥah where he discusses the Hadith Qudsi of the conversation between Allah (subḥānahu wa ta'āla) and the one in prayer.

Part 11 : Meaning of "Rabbi Al- 'Alamin"

You do not see in the creation of the Most Merciful any inconsistency. So return (your) vision (to the sky); do you see any breaks? Then return (your) vision twice again. (Your) vision will return to you humbled while it is fatigued. ~ [Surat Al-Mulk, verse 3-4]

The perfection of the creation of Allah is that everything around us is in perfect harmony without any inconsistency or breaks. Allah (subḥānahu wa ta'āla) is the Owner, the One who is obeyed and the One who Sustains all that exists.

In this special Ramadan series episode of the Tafsir of Surat al-Fātiĥah Shaykh Dr. Yasir Qadhi discusses the profound meaning of the phrase "Rabbi Al-`Ālamīn".

Part 12 : Explanation of " Maliki Yawmi Ad-Din"

The most grandiose day in human existence where every single created being will stand in front of the King of all kings Allah (subḥānahu wa ta'āla) who will be the the ultimate Owner & Judge of the Day of Judgement.

A day that will be 50,000 years long for some and for some the same Day of Judgement will only be a few hours with an easy accounting, in sha Allah!

In this special Ramadan series episode of the Tafsir of Surat al-Fātiĥah Shaykh Dr. Yasir Qadhi discusses the profound meaning of the verse "Māliki Yawmi Ad-Dīn", commonly translated as "Master of the Day of Judgement" and how can one make his accounting easy and quick on the Day of Judgement.

Part 13 : Worship through Love, Hope, & Fear

For some religions the main characteristic they attribute to their god is an angry vengeful jealous god that must be appeased else his wrath will be upon you.

On the other side of the spectrum you have certain religions that only focus on love & mercy and claim that "god is love" and with such beliefs create great injustices to themselves and those around them having no fear of accountability.

Unlike other religions, in Islam we worship Allah (subḥānahu wa ta'āla) based upon three motivational factors of Love, Hope & Fear.

In this special Ramadan series episode of the Tafsir of Surat al-Fātiĥah Shaykh Dr. Yasir Qadhi discusses the three motivational factors of worship; namely Love, Hope & Fear and the theological concepts of Monotheism, Messengers and the Day of Judgement.

Part 14 : The Eloquence of the Qur'an

A common theme in the Qur'an is the consistent change of tense in the structure of a Surah. Allah (subḥānahu wa ta'āla) will begin a verse in third-person and shortly after the proceeding verses will narrate from the first-person.

When the average English speaking individual reads a translation of the Book of Allah this sudden shift in narrative is seen as grammatically incorrect, which often makes them question the Divine Speech of Allah (subḥānahu wa ta'āla) and consider it flawed with grammatical errors.

In this special Ramadan series episode of the Tafsir of Surat al-Fātiĥah Shaykh Dr. Yasir Qadhi discusses the eloquence of the verse 'Īyāka Na`budu Wa 'Īyāka Nasta`īn, and clarifies the misunderstanding of applying the grammatical rules of English to the Divine Speech of Allah (subḥānahu wa ta'āla) written in Arabic.

Part 15 : Worship Allah as if you see Him!

The greatest of angels Jibrīl (‘alayhi’l-salām) asked the Prophet (ṣallallāhu ‘alayhi wa sallam) "Tell me about ihsân?”

The Prophet (ṣallallāhu ‘alayhi wa sallam) replied “It is to worship Allah as though you see Him, and though you do not see Him, He sees you.” ~ [Sahîh al Bukhârî & Sahîh Muslim]

Ihsân is when the slave engages in worship with such intense awareness of the fact that he is presenting himself before his Lord that it is as though he is seeing Him. A worship that is absolutely sincere where the heart of the worshipper is filled with humility, awe, and consciousness of his Creator.

In this special Ramadan series episode of the Tafsir of Surat al-Fātiĥah learn about the very essence of our worship & servitude to Allāh (subḥānahu wa ta'āla)

Join Shaykh Dr. Yasir Qadhi as he explains...

• What is ibadah (worship)

• What is Isti'ana (seeking & pleading for Allah's help)

• The 3 motivational factors of worship - Love, Hope & Fear.

• The primary conditions for our worship to be accepted by Allah.

Part 16 : Guide us to the Straight Path

One of the greatness of Surat al-Fātiĥah is that Allāh (subḥānahu wa ta'āla) tells us what to ask Him and how to ask Him.

The King of all kings instructs us that of the very first blessing that we need to ask for is the blessing of being guided to the straight and correct path.

In this special Ramadan series episode of the Tafsir of Surat al-Fātiĥah Shaykh Dr. Yasir Qadhi discusses the verse Ahdinā Aş-Şirāţa Al-Mustaqīm (Guide us to the Straight Path) and explains...

• The etiquettes of making du'a

• What is the meaning of the word Hidaya

• The different types of Hidaya

• The meaning and the differences between the words Siraat, Sabeel and Tareek

• The meaning of the word Mustaqeem

Part 17 : Path of the Prophets & the Righteous ~

The standard doctrine of Sunni Islam is that we respect all the Companions of the Prophet (ṣallallāhu ‘alayhi wa sallam) & hold them with the highest honour and that Abu Bakr (raḍyAllāhu ‘anhu) was the first rightly guided Khalifah of the Muslims.

The famous Scholar Imam Fakhr ad-Din ar-Razi (raḥimahullāh) from Herat (modern day Afghanistan) commented that the final verse in Surat al-Fātiĥah "The path of those upon whom You have bestowed favor" is a proof of the legitimate Khilafah of the best of this Ummah - Abu Bakr as-Siddik (raḍyAllāhu ‘anhu)!

In today's special Ramadan series episode of the Tafsir of Surat al-Fātiĥah Shaykh Dr. Yasir Qadhi discusses how the verse Şirāţa Al-Ladhīna 'An`amta `Alayhim (The path of those upon whom You have bestowed favor) proves the Khilafah of Abu Bakr (raḍyAllāhu ‘anhu) along with a discussion of...

• How many paths lead to God

• The concept of Hidaya (Guidance)

• Why does a Muslim need to ask for Hidaya while we are already guided to the truth

• The different levels of Hidaya

• The greatest blessing of Islam

Part 18 : The path of those who are astray

The Prophet (ṣallallāhu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said "Say Āmīn when the Imam says 'Ghayri Al-Maghđūbi `Alayhim Wa Lā Ađ-Đāllīn' (not of those who have evoked anger or of those who are astray); for all the past sins of the person whose saying (of Āmīn) coincides with that of the Angels, will be forgiven" ~ [Sahih al-Bukhari]

In this special episode of the Tafsir of Surat al-Fātiĥah Shaykh Dr. Yasir Qadhi discusses the verse Ghayri Al-Maghđūbi `Alayhim Wa Lā Ađ-Đāllīn and the method of saying Āmīn.
