Several relatives of Abdullah Alkadi, the Saudi scholarship student in the US whose body was found late on Thursday more than a month after he went missing, are flying to Los Angeles, California, to bring his body back home.
Alkadi’s cousin has also revealed new information about events in the hours leading up to his disappearance.
The body of 23-year-old Alkadi, who had been missing since Sept. 17, was found by the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) about two-and-a-half hours away from where he lived.
Police officials had identified the body along a deserted road south of the state. His father and brother, who had launched a massive appeal on social media sites in search of Abdullah, are expected to return with the body by Thursday in time for a funeral procession on Friday.
Essam Alkadi, the victim’s cousin, confirmed that the family, which lives in the Eastern Province, received news of his death from the Saudi embassy in the US.
According to Essam, the family received condolences from Eastern Province Gov. Prince Saud bin Naif, and his deputy, Prince Jalawi bin Abdulaziz, both of whom had been closely following up the case.
“The Saudi embassy had also played a role in the search for the missing student during the investigation,” he added.
The LAPD had announced on Saturday that no information on the case would be released until a press conference is held on Monday.
His cousin, however, has revealed new information about events in the hours leading up to Abdullah’s disappearance.
“Abdullah was kidnapped from in front of his house,” said Essam.
“He had last communicated via telephone with his cousins, agreeing to meet them at a restaurant in Los Angeles to study.” “His cousins went to look for him after he failed to show up two hours later and stopped answering his phone.”
Abdullah, a student at California State University at Northridge in L.A., was studying for a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering.
His last tweet, expressing distress, was published on Sept. 15.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) had also been involved in the search with the LAPD.
Ahmed Alkadi, the victim’s brother, said he is in contact with the Saudi consulate in Los Angeles to complete procedures for repatriating the body and bringing the perpetrators to justice.

A Saudi woman studying at Essex University was murdered on June, as she walked from her home to classes.
Police believe Nahid Almanea left her home in Colchester, Essex at around 10 a.m.

As she walked to classes, Ms Almanea was attacked and repeatedly stabbed with a knife.
She was stabbed a total of 16 times and several of the wounds proved to be fatal.

Nahid Almanea: Colchester murder probe 'has not gone cold'
The investigation into the murder of a Saudi Arabian student in Essex has "not gone cold", police have said.

Nahid Almanea, 31, was found fatally stabbed on the Salary Brook Trail in Colchester on 17 June. No one has been charged in connection with her death.

Essex Police said detectives had been "working around the clock" on the case.

The force has appealed again for anyone nearby at the time of the killing to come forward.

'Significant progress'
"The commitment to solve Nahid's murder is as strong today as it was three months ago," said Det Chf Insp Mark Hall from the Kent and Essex serious crime directorate.

"We still have a large amount of officers working on the investigation.

"Over the past few weeks we have made a significant amount of progress.

"I remain confident we will identify the person or people responsible for her murder."

The charity Crimestoppers is offering a reward of £10,000 for help in solving the case.
Nahid Almanea was seen on CCTV in the Greenstead area of Colchester.
