North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un said Pyongyang would not sit idly by "with rabid dogs barking" about toppling its socialist system, in apparent reaction to comments by US President Barack Obama that the regime was doomed, state media reported Saturday.

Kim made the remarks while overseeing a joint naval and air force drill simulating an attack on a US carrier strike group off South Korea, the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) said.

It did not give details of the venue and date of the war games, which were believed to have taken place on Friday.

"He solemnly declared that we have no willingness to sit any longer with the rabid dogs openly barking that they will bring down by the method of bringing about 'changes' the socialist system, the cradle which our people consider dearer than their own lives", KCNA said.

Kim said North Korea was ready to counter "any war including a war by conventional armed forces and a nuclear war".

In an interview on YouTube from the White House on January 22, Obama spoke of the eventual collapse of the North Korean regime, calling it "the most isolated, the most sanctioned, the most cut-off nation on Earth".

"We will keep on ratcheting the pressure, but part of what's happening is ... the Internet over time is going to be penetrating this country," Obama said.

"Over time you will see a regime like this collapse," he said, adding the US was looking for ways to accelerate the flow of information into the country".

A North Korean foreign ministry spokesman lashed out at his remarks on Sunday, portraying them as "nothing but a poor grumble of a loser", adding that attempts to topple the regime would only strengthen unity among its people.

The North has often used bombastic and sometimes racist rhetoric to slam Obama and other US leaders.

In December its top military body chaired by Kim compared Obama to a "monkey" over his support for the screening of a Hollywood comedy hated by Pyongyang.

"The Interview" -- about a fictional plot to assassinate Kim -- was released online and in theatres despite devastating cyberattacks on its producer Sony Pictures.

Washington blames Pyongyang for the attacks, a charge the North has angrily denied.

North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has overseen a joint naval and air force drill simulating an attack on the U.S. Navy,... in an apparent reaction to recent comments made by U.S. President Barack Obama in which he said the regime was doomed to collapse.
The North′s state-run Korean Central News Agency reported Saturday... that the drill was initiated by Kim personally .. as he "no longer plans to sit face to face with rabid dogs barking loudly,"... in a comment clearly directed at Obama and the U.S. government.
According to the report,... Kim said the North will counter any war, including a nuclear war, against the United States.
The report failed to mention when or where the drill took place.
North Korea has already held two air force and army drills this month,... but this latest exercise was even bigger, involving fighter jets and other powerful military hardware.

North Korea Sunday described US President Barack Obama as a "loser" over his criticism on its regime, accusing him of being obsessed with hostility towards Pyongyang.

The comment from the North's foreign ministry came after Obama spoke of the eventual collapse of the regime ruling what he called "the most isolated, the most sanctioned, the most cut-off nation on Earth".

"We will keep on ratcheting the pressure, but part of what's happening is... the Internet over time is going to be penetrating this country," Obama said in an interview on YouTube from the White House last week.

"Over time you will see a regime like this collapse," he said, adding the US was looking for ways to accelerate the flow of information into the country.

A spokesman for the North's foreign ministry lashed out at the remarks, describing them as "rubbish".

"The recent wild remarks made by Obama are nothing but a poor grumble of a loser driven into a tight corner in the all-out standoff with the (North)," the spokesman told state news agency KCNA.

"We cannot but be shocked to find that Obama... is so preoccupied with the inveterate repugnancy and hostility toward a sovereign state."

Attempts to topple the regime -- led by Kim Jong-Un -- would only strengthen unity among its people, he said.

The North has often used bombastic and sometimes racist rhetoric to slam Obama and other US leaders.

Last month its top military body chaired by Kim compared Obama to a "monkey" over his support for the screening of a Hollywood comedy hated by Pyongyang.

"The Interview" -- about a fictional plot to assassinate Kim -- was released online and in theatres last month, despite devastating cyberattacks on its producer Sony Pictures.
