Why the Shariah forbids pictures or images of the Prophet/s.

Ibn Qayyim said: “More than one of the Salaf said: ‘when they died [righteous people of the past before the Prophet Muhammad SAW], the people started to frequent their graves, then they made statues of them, then as time passed they started to worship them.” (Fath Al-Majeed Sharh Kitaab Al-Tawheed by ‘Abd Al-Rahman Ibn Hasan, P 219)

Ibn al-Qayyim mentions in Zaad al-Ma’aad (3/694) that when Heraclius heard news of the Negus becoming Muslim, he said: “By Allaah, were it not for the sake of holding on to my kingdom, I would have done what he has done.”

His fear for himself and his kingdom prevented him from becoming Muslim and migrating to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him).

Ibn Qayyim was the father of two sons, Abdullah and Ibrahim, both of whom went on to follow in his footsteps and become excellent scholars in their own right.

Abdullah, the second of Ibn Qayyim's two sons, was very intelligent, talented and mature for his age and was blessed with an equally excellent memory. He memorised Surah Al-A'raf in two days and lead Salah while he was only nine years old. After the death of his father, he assumed responsibility of Sadriyyah instead of his older brother.

During his tenure inn this position, he was known for his sharpness in wisdom, eagerness to defend Allah's Deen and struggle against bid'ah [innovations in religion] of the day.

Ibrahim meanwhile was both a grammarian as well as a jurist. In addition to also teaching at Sadriyyah along with his younger brother and possessing a good reputation due to his legal verdicts and Islamic knowledge, he also authored many books, the most famous of which is Irshad As-Salik Ila Hall Alfiyyah Ibn Malik; a commentary on Sheikh Alfiyyah Ibn Malijk.

Ibn al-Qayyim said in 'The Prophetic medicine' regarding patience:

'Patience is half of faith; for this is a quality composed of patience and gratitude (shukr). As one of the ancestors (salaf) has said: Faith is in two halves: one half patience, one half gratitude. And the Most High said:

"Indeed in that there are signs for each one who is patiently persevering and truly grateful [Surah Ibrahim: 5].'

Ibn Al-Qayyim said, “Those who are the closest to Allah are the ones who have their Mubaah (allowed acts like sleep) turned into acts of worship and into a means of approach to Allah, on account of their good intention (Niyyah). They no longer have a Mubaah that is equal on both sides (where doing or abandoning it are the same). All their deeds are leaning to one side, (that is, they always gain a reward).”
