"Ask your heart about it [virtue]. Virtue is that which contents one's soul and comforts the heart. Sin, on the other hand, is that which causes doubts and perturbs the heart, even if people should prononce it lawful and should seek your verdicts on such matters." (Imam Ahmad and Darimi)

First: Sincerity in sayings and deeds

Second: Abandoning bad deeds and performing good ones

Third: Ascetism concerning paying little attention to money, even though it is not ill-gotten." (Jami Al Uulum Wak Hikam, A Collection of Wise Sayings, Ibn Rajab, P 401, 2002)

"Ibn Mas'ud said to his followers, 'Although you perform more deeds than the Companions of the Prophet (SAW), they were better than you. They said, 'How?' "The Messenger of Allah (SAW) said,

'Do not be envious of one another

Do not artificially raise prices against one another

Do not hate one another

Do not turn your back on each other and

Do not undercut one another in business transactions.

And be slaves of Allah, brethren.

A Muslim is the brother of a Muslim

He does not oppress him.

He does not fail him [when he needs him]

He does not lie to him.

And he does not show contempt for him.

Piety is here- and he pointed to his chest three times.

'It is enough evil for a person to hold his fellow Muslim in contempt.

All of a Muslim is inviolable to another Muslim: his blood, his wealth and his income." (Sahih Muslim in Kitab Al-Birr Was Silah, No 32/2564)

"The Prophet (SAW) said, 'Shall I inform you of that which is better than the degree of prayer, fasting and charity?' They [the Companions] answered, 'Yes, O Ptophet of Allah'. He told them, '[It is] to make reconciliation between yourselves, for verily deterioration of the [relations] between yourselves is that what cuts off [of your religion]." (Abu Dawud in Kitab Al-Adab, No 4919)

"The Prophet (SAW) went out to the circle of his companions and said, 'What makes you sit here?' They said, 'We are sitting here in order to remember Allah and to praise Him for He guided us to the path of Islam and conferred favours upon us.'

Thereupon he [the Prophet SAW] swore by Allah and asked if that was the only purpose of their sitting here. They said, 'By Allah, we are only sitting here for that very purpose;' whereupon he said, 'I am not asking you to take an oath because of any allegation against you, but because Gabriel came to me and informed me that Allah, the Exalted and Glorious, was talking to the angels about your magnificence." (Sahih Muslim in Kitab Az-Zikr, No 2701/40)

Personal Comment: This action is both easy, enjoyable and healthy. The act of assembing for the purpose of speaking about Allah, His Attributes, His Qualities, His Perfection, His Justice etc. This can also include speaking about how we were before we became good Muslims, what we were like and how we think, behave and act differently now. This can further include speaking about Jannah and what is there and also speaking abot the Prophet and good Muslims and how Allah has guided us through each of them.

Smiling in your brother’s face is an act of charity.
So is enjoining good and forbidding evil,
giving directions to the lost traveller,
aiding the blind and
removing obstacles from the path.

(Graded authentic by Ibn Hajar and al-Albani: Hidaayat-ur-Ruwaah, 2/293)”

“Declare your jihad on thirteen enemies you cannot see -egoism, arrogance, conceit, selfishness, greed, lust, intolerance, anger, lying, cheating, gossiping and slandering. If you can master and destroy them, then you will be read to fight the enemy you can see.”

“Islam appears to me like a perfect work of architecture. All its parts are harmoniously conceived to complement and support each other; nothing is superfluous and nothing lacking; and the result is a structure of absolute balance and solid composure.” (Muhammad Asad)

“Do not use your energy except for a cause more noble than yourself. Such a cause cannot be found except in Almighty God Himself: to preach the truth, to defend womanhood, to repel humiliation which your Creator has not imposed upon you, to help the oppressed. Anyone who uses his energy for the sake of the vanities of the world is like someone who exchanges gemstones for gravel. There is no nobility in anyone who lacks faith. The wise man knows that the only fitting price for his soul is a place in Paradise...”
Ibn Hazm al-Andalusi
