Saudi policeman shot dead after Mecca raid
RIYADH // A Saudi police officer has been shot dead in the Mecca region, the interior ministry said on Friday, after four suspected jihadists died during a raid in the same area.
Corporal Khalaf Al Harithi was on duty at a station in the western region on Thursday evening when he was hit by gunfire from an unknown source, the ministry said in a statement.
An investigation is under way.

GAZA CITY // A Palestinian woman was killed on Thursday when Israeli tank shells hit her home east of Khan Younis in the Gaza Strip.
Zeina Al Amour, 54, was the first fatality in the latest escalation between Israel and Hamas, which rules Gaza.
The flare-up raised concerns over the fate of a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas that has held since the 50-day war in 2014.
In that war more than 2,251 Palestinians, mostly civilians, and 73 Israelis, mostly soldiers, were killed.
Overnight on Tuesday to Wednesday Israeli air raids hit four targets in northern Gaza. Medical sources said a raid on the Al Zeitoun district wounded four people, including three children and a 65-year-old man.
The raid hit a garage whose owner, Hasan Hasaneen, said the vehicles that caught fire were not used by security forces but only for “reconstruction works".

Etihad Airways flight traveling from Abu Dhabi to Jakarta when turbulence shook the cabin.
31 travellers were injured in the turbulence, eight Indonesian passengers and a foreign flight attendant onboard with several suffering broken bones, Indonesian transportation ministry spokesman Hemi Pamuraharjo said.
Passengers onboard who spoke to Jakarta-based news website Okezone said oxygen masks tumbled out in the turbulence and passengers, including Muslim pilgrims returning from Saudi Arabia, were hurt.
"It happened when I was performing prayers," passenger Nenden Nurhaini told the website. "The plane suddenly began to shake so fast."
Etihad, like its older Gulf rivals Qatar Airways and Dubai-based Emirates, has grown rapidly in recent years primarily by attracting long-haul transit passengers.
Founded in 2003, it has a good safety record and last year carried 17.6 million passengers. It holds stakes in several other airlines, including Air Berlin, Alitalia and Virgin Australia.
The Airbus A330-200 landed safely Etihad said.
