MOH starts massive health awareness drive for Haj
RIYADH — The Ministry of Health has launched a massive health awareness campaign for this year’s Haj under the slogan “Together for a Healthy Pilgrimage”.

According to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) on Wednesday, the campaign is meant to enlighten the guests of God about the most important health requirements the pilgrims should meet to stay healthy during the Haj season.

The ministry asked the pilgrims to make sure that they are vaccinated against a number of infectious diseases before arriving in the Kingdom. Among others, these diseases include the yellow fever, meningitis, seasonal flu and small pox.

The ministry has printed more than 500,000 stickers and a large quantity of pamphlets in 10 languages containing information about the infectious diseases, their symptoms and side effects, and how to avoid them.

The pamphlets explain easy ways and means through which a pilgrim can detect these diseases and the methods he or she should follow in case of an infection.

The ministry has set up medical centers at all air, sea and land inlets to make sure that the pilgrims are vaccinated. Anyone who failed to get vaccinated back home can do it on arrival at the entry points.

The ministry has also produced four documentaries with guidelines about sunstroke, heat exhaustion, food poisoning and others.

The ministry has prepared four vehicles with large screens and placed about 80 plasma screens at health centers in the holy sites to spread awareness among pilgrims.

It will also use social media to spread health awareness and will send more than 2 million text messages on mobile phones.

About 380,000 pilgrims have so far arrived in the Kingdom to perform the fifth pillar of Islam.

Transport Minister Solaiman Al-Hamdan, who is the acting president of the General Authority for Civil Aviation (GACA), said about 190,00 pilgrims arrived via King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah and a similar number via Prince Muhammad Bin Abdul Aziz International Airport in Madinah.

The minister on Tuesday made an inspection tour of the Haj Terminal in Jeddah to review the preparations being made to receive the guests of God.
He said the terminal can easily accommodate about a million pilgrims and it will be enlarged whenever necessary.

The terminal contains 14 lounges to serve the pilgrims who can now clear passport procedures in about half an hour of arrival and embark the buses that will take them either to Makkah or Madinah.

Launches Ajeer portal for temporary work in Haj.
RIYADH/MAKKAH/MADINAH — The Ministry of Labor and Social Development has launched an electronic service for temporary work during the Haj season via ‘Ajeer’ portal. The aim is to provide an electronic market that shows the supply and demand for jobs during the Haj season, Saudi Press Agency reported Saturday.

The portal brings together owners of companies providing services to pilgrims in Makkah and Madinah provinces and individuals seeking temporary jobs during the Haj season. The jobseekers include Saudi citizens and expatriates, who are residing legally in the Kingdom.

The Undersecretary for the Ministry of Labor and Social Development for Labor Policies Dr. Ahmed Qattan said the portal for temporary jobs in Haj can be accessed via the link: https:www.temporarywork.com.sa.

The link enables owners of firms to offer vacancies they have during the Haj season via the portal. It also enables the jobseeker to review these jobs and choose the one that suits him.

Qattan added that the portal would provide a labor market based on demand and supply and bring together Haj companies with individuals wishing to work on temporary contracts. He added that it is conditional that the applicant should have performed Haj before, whether he is a Saudi or expatriate.

Additionally, the expatriate applicant should be on the job in a registered firm or he should be accompanying or is a member of one of the communities.
Qattan said the portal aims to enable companies to attract workers from within the Kingdom for work during the Haj season instead of recruiting workers from abroad. He further said a contract would be signed between Haj companies and workers. Paper contracts will be replaced with electronic ones.

Dr. Qattan called on Haj companies and individuals interested to work during the Haj season to avail of the services being provided by the portal.

The ministry has allocated the client service telephone number 920002866 in ‘Ajeer’.

In another development, the General Presidency for the Affairs of the Two Holy Mosques has mobilized over 15,000 regular and seasonal workers, apart from workers assigned in cleaning, maintenance and operation tasks in order to carry out its Haj plan for this year in the two holy mosques round the clock.

In a statement to the press, Dr. Abdulrahman Al-Sudais, president of the affairs of the two holy mosques, said the plan aims to highlight the respectable universal image of the two holy mosques, shed light on the real values of Islam and disseminate its teachings, activate the enlightenment and guidance role of the two holy mosques and highlight the Kingdom’s role in serving the two holy mosques.

Meantime, the Haj and Umrah Pilgrim’s Gift Charitable Society in Makkah has employed 120 Saudi young men and women to work within its basic team in supervisory and field jobs. This comes within its initiatives to disseminate the culture of charitable work in society and instill Islamic values in Saudi young men and women.

This is also in implementation of the Saudi Vision 2030, which aims to achieve one million volunteers in the nonprofit sector, aside from contributing to serving the pilgrims, Sheikh Saleh Bin Muhammad Al Talib, chairman of the board of directors of the society and imam and khateeb of the Grand Mosque in Makkah, said.

Meanwhile, the Holy Sites Committee in the Tawafa Establishment for Pilgrims of South Asian Countries distributed on Saturday the sites for accommodating pilgrims in Arafat among the heads of 118 offices. Of these, 70 offices will use buses for transporting pilgrims while 48 offices will use the Mashaer Train.

SPA also reported on Saturday that the number of pilgrims who arrived today in Madinah reached 31,050, according to statistics by the Haj-related bodies. This raises the total number of pilgrims who have arrived in Madinah to 303,900.

About 22,855 pilgrims came via Prince Muhammad Bin Abdulaziz International Airport, in Madinah, 8,078 pilgrims through Hijrah station, 117 pilgrims came via the land routes, while 108,325 pilgrims have left to Makkah.

Mina Locator Useful App for Pilgrims.
Mina Locator is a very useful App for pilgrims and Pakistan Hajj Volunteers Group (PHVG) field staff. Through this App you can identify the route to different Camps (Maktabs), Train Stations, Mosques, Hospitals, PHVG Posts and other important locations in Mina with the reference of your current location.

Prerequisite:
The device must be equipped with below services to run Mina Locator App.

1. Google Play Services
2. Google Maps
3. GPS

Every year a number of pilgrims face problems in locating their tents and places of accommodation in Makkah, and at the holy sites of Mina and Arafat.

To solve this problem, the Pakistan Haj Volunteer Group (PHVG) and the India Fraternity Forum developed a navigation app which will work from Dul Haj 7, when authorities start numbering the tents.

Communication becomes difficult when they don’t know the language, and identical tents make it even more difficult for them to reach their camps or destination.
He explained that with the help of technology such problems can be easily solved, and understanding the importance of this issue, PHVG launched its mobile application called “Mina Locator,” which is a very useful app for pilgrims.

He said the PHVG field staff, with this app, could easily identify the route to different camps (Maktabs), train stations, mosques, hospitals, PHVG posts and other important locations in Mina with the reference of their current location using an Android smartphone.

If pilgrims need further assistance like a wheel chair or in-person guidance, they can navigate to the nearest PHVG volunteer location in Mina.

“We will have all the building locations by this coming Friday, and as soon as the Haj mission offices are allocated and tents are given numbers, we will update our apps. We are working in close coordination with the Pakistan Haj mission and the Punjab IT board,” he said.

He also explained that this year their target is to coordinate with all South Asian Hujaj Maktabs, pilgrims’ foundations and establishments as they already have some links and awareness about South Asian Maktabs and foundations.

He requested Saudi authorities, or any relevant organization, to provide PHVG with the database of GPS coordinates for camps of all local and foreign pilgrims for the current year (2016) and in the future.

He said in the coming year they are planning to launch a compatible version for iPhone users.
India Fraternity Forum, Saudi Arabia is also introducing a Mina tent locator this year for pilgrims to navigate easily to their tents without an Internet connection through smartphones.
