Assalamau alaikum sister,

I would like to mention a hadith, that says," When you are getting doubts about faith keep on saying " Amantu bilahi we resulihi" as much as you can.

And truly from your post I see you do believe in God and in His messengers. This will help you clear hard moments and inshaAllah go more pacefully in your research. May Allah teala meke it clear the truth as sun in clear sky. Ameen.

Assalamualaikum,

Peace and Blessings with you all, I can understand that anti-islam sites are trying to portray Islam in a negative light, my advise is to pray to the One True God, without any partners, to guide you and please don't take information at face value do research for yourself.

Also it would be inaccurate to link some unIslamic acts carried out my so called Muslims and link it with Islam. Language such as "Islamic Terrorist", "Jihadist", "Islamofascism" is all highly inaccurate and politically charged. Also you should look into the historical contexts of many of todays conflicts to truly understand these problems instead of simply believing those who want you to link it with Islam to further their own agendas. I will present some further resources for you and please let me know if you need more info. in terms of the political contexts of todays conflict. Peace and May Allah Help and Guide us All.

To be honest; I didnt know much about Islam before I converted; but I never saw Jesus as "GOD". But I liked Islam because it was ONE God. i was sat down by family and lectured and shown things. Things I newer knew.

I will be totally honest and tell you what is in my heart.

I hear from many sources that Muhammad was a violent man and told men to kill others and to rape women that he caught. And Muhammad OKed it. How can this be?

I have been shown many violent passages in the quran and many hadits that are just rediculess.

I was also told about how the quran is not whole and not from God. And that Aisha said a goat ate parts of the quran. A sura had 70 when it should have 200.

and how Muhammad was given the quran in darkness and Jesus and all other prophets was given his in light.

There is really just so much i am now confused about. I am struggling and really need help.

Well, I don't know much about Islam, I'm still learning and I'm not yet a muslim.......But what I DO KNOW (and you can read it these in a "Christian bible) is:

"The LORD said to Moses, "Take all the leaders of these people, kill them and expose them in broad daylight before the LORD, so that the LORD's fierce anger may turn away from Israel."Numbers 25:4..

and..read also:Joshua 10:25,26:

" And Joshua said unto them, Fear not, nor be dismayed, be strong and of good courage: for thus shall the LORD do to all your enemies against whom ye fight.
10:26 And afterward Joshua smote them, and slew them, and hanged them on five trees: and they were hanging upon the trees until the evening"

and about the little girl....well,...I know much less about that but read this also from Christian bible:

1 Kings 1:1-4

1 Now king David was old and stricken in years; and they covered him with clothes, but he gat no heat.
2 Wherefore his servants said unto him, Let there be sought for my lord the king a young virgin: and let her stand before the king, and let her cherish him, and let her lie in thy bosom, that my lord the king may get heat.
3 So they sought for a fair damsel throughout all the coasts of Israel, and found Abishag a Shunammite, and brought her to the king.

Asalam o Alaikum sister
I am really disheartened to hear that but pls sister as other brother and sisters requested i also request and urge u to acquire the knowledge on ur own and since u will toil ur self in this noble deed u will surely find the true path and will clear all ur doubts InshaAllah. And let us know how can we help u more as on the day of qayamah we will be questioned too as to why didnt we offer help to make u see the right path so we dont wont to be accountable hence we will try our best to help u and each other in all means we can withing the limits of Islam, InshaAllah.
Meanwhile below are some answers of ur question...

I have been shown many violent passages in the quran and many hadits that are just rediculess.

DOES ISLAM PROMOTE VIOLENCE?

Question:

Doesn’t Islam promote violence, bloodshed and brutality since the Qur’an says that Muslims should kill the kuffar where ever they find them?

Answer:

A few selected verses from the Qur’an are often misquoted to perpetuate the myth that Islam promotes violence, and exhorts its followers to kill those outside the pale of Islam.

1. Verse from Surah Taubah
The following verse from Surah Taubah is very often quoted by critics of Islam, to show that Islam promotes violence, bloodshed and brutality:

"Kill the mushriqeen (pagans, polytheists, kuffar) where ever you find them."
[Al-Qur’an 9:5]

2. Context of verse is during battlefield
Critics of Islam actually quote this verse out of context. In order to understand the context, we need to read from verse 1 of this surah. It says that there was a peace treaty between the Muslims and the Mushriqs (pagans) of Makkah. This treaty was violated by the Mushriqs of Makkah. A period of four months was given to the Mushriqs of Makkah to make amends. Otherwise war would be declared against them. Verse 5 of Surah Taubah says:

"But when the forbidden months are past, then fight and slay the Pagans wherever ye find them, and seize them, beleaguer them, and lie in wait for them in every stratagem (of war); but if they repent, and establish regular prayers and practise regular charity, then open the way for them: for Allah is oft-forgiving, Most merciful."
[Al-Qur’an 9:5]

This verse is quoted during a battle.

3. Example of war between America and Vietnam
We know that America was once at war with Vietnam. Suppose the President of America or the General of the American Army told the American soldiers during the war: "Wherever you find the Vietnamese, kill them". Today if I say that the American President said, "Wherever you find Vietnamese, kill them" without giving the context, I will make him sound like a butcher. But if I quote him in context, that he said it during a war, it will sound very logical, as he was trying to boost the morale of the American soldiers during the war.

4. Verse 9:5 quoted to boost morale of Muslims during battle

Similarly in Surah Taubah chapter 9 verse 5 the Qur’an says, "Kill the Mushriqs where ever you find them", during a battle to boost the morale of the Muslim soldiers. What the Qur’an is telling Muslim soldiers is, don’t be afraid during battle; wherever you find the enemies kill them.

5. Critics usually jump from verse 5 to verse 7
Some of the staunchest critics of Islam , quotes the same verse, Surah Taubah chapter 9 verse 5 in their book. After quoting verse 5 they jump to verse 7 of Surah Taubah. Any sensible person will realise that they have skipped verse 6.

6. Surah Taubah chapter 9 verse 6 gives the answer
Surah Taubah chapter 9 verse 6 gives the answer to the allegation that Islam promotes violence, brutality and bloodshed. It says:

"If one amongst the pagans ask thee for asylum, grant it to him, so that he may hear the word of Allah; and then escort him to where he can be secure that is because they are men without knowledge."
[Al-Qur’an 9:6]

The Qur’an not only says that a Mushriq seeking asylum during the battle should be granted refuge, but also that he should be escorted to a secure place. In the present international scenario, even a kind, peace-loving army General, during a battle, may let the enemy soldiers go free, if they want peace. But which army General will ever tell his soldiers, that if the enemy soldiers want peace during a battle, don’t just let them go free, but also escort them to a place of security?

This is exactly what Allah (swt) says in the Glorious Qur’an to promote peace in the world.

SO sister learn and find out and I am sure will one day be able to answer those who today question u and misguide u from your deen Islam.

may allah strenght our iman and bless us all

I guess you need to read about the status of women before the emergence of Islam. I am not sure if there is translated book about women before Islam. However, you can I am sure there are books about women in societies other than the Muslim society. I understand you may not find enough information about that, but I suggest that you read Surah "Anissa." You will find how women are viewed from a Muslim perspective. Hope you the best.

Hello, I want to try and help you even thought I know very little but I reply anyway. I also had them questions before I reverted to Islam but borhers and sisters helped me with that.
Brothers and sisters, please correct me if I am wrong in anything in my reply.

About Aisha, yes she was a young girl when got aranged married, 6-7 years old, fully married when a young woman has her first period. that means she is a woman. at age 9 some say but noone realy knows and that is private between husband and wife anyway.

When you take a wife, it is to support her formost. that we have to know as nr 1, also if you divorce your wife you have to support her untill she gets a new husband in islam.

many wifes are taken to support them if there husband for example have passed away or taken as a young girl if there parents could not support the young woman.

I hope I was able to answer that question alittle.

I was also told about how the quran is not whole and not from God. And that Aisha said a goat ate parts of the quran. A sura had 70 when it should have 200.

If you written a book not published? would you let a goat play around with it?
I doubt a goat eat it anyway if you letted one do but wouldent you protect it alittle more carefull then that?
Now, if you had received the word of God. you would protect it with your life, right? even with sword if needed!!
Mohammed and his few fallovers at first was hunted with the sword! the hunters they wanted to remove Allahs word from this earth! , they couldent, that should tell you something.
Allahs word by the profet Mohammed would not been here if Allah didnt want it to be so.

About Aisha again, she loved her husband, Mohammed, Peace be upon him, she stayed faithfully with him untill he left this life.

Regards /Erik

I converted 5 years ago to Islam and now I am thinking of going back to the Catholic church. To be honest i am having problems with Islam. I dont want this thread to turn into a drama thread so please reply only if you can help me.
I have grown to see Islam as unfair and violent. I really have just been turned away from all the past and present events. I really feel at a cross roads now.
Any thoughts would be helpful.

Asalamualykum

To Be honest my advice is that you should strenghthen your imaan for example Completing the five pillars of islam i would recomend that you go on Hajj with the right intension and experience the true islam by listening to lectures reading the Quran with Translation In English. In so doing reflect upon what You are reading and repent for exmple our heart could be like clay it starts of soft ready to be shaped and will turn hard and then water is needed to turn it soft again so my Sister turn to Allah For He is Most Gracious cry out in Forgiveness for this just be a test from Allah SWT and fight out the doughts for they are indeed the whispers of shaytan the accursed.

I was told leaving was not an option it is actually like the song... " Hotel California" .....Once you check in you can't chek out" I hope you find the peace you long and search for. I believe there is good and bad in every religion. The golden rules we either follow them or choose not too, this is where we are responsible for our own actions and we do not throw all our sins for one man to carry " Jesus" that would not be fair, he was an extraordinary super halfhuman ...whom was created by the seed of woman and the will of God.....in charge of this Grand event to be announce was of course the angel God sent down by the name Gabriel the same angel sent down to reveal the Message to prophet Muhammad PBUH .....Allah sent the same angel to two extraordinary prophets. . You mention the Message was send to Muhammad in the dark in a cave....so what? Jesus was born in a stable at night....It should not matter where you are born or where a message is deliver, maybe God wants to set an example by choosing the most humble of places for the birth of a person, Message or nation to bloom and flourish from. Did you ever read what was done to people during the inquisition? ran by the Catholic church. My point again is you can extract the positive and good from any religion or you can manipulated for your own purposes and destroy what was intend it to be good and pure. You also mention a goat ate part of the Quran.......there are missing chapters to the bible that are now being found that were not included. Honestly I hope that most people focus in the positive and not the negative and live more by the Golden Rules regardless of what religion they belong too. I hope this helps you in your search. "God is our only guide"

Islam is'nt not Muslims, If I waited the "Media depiction of Muslims" to revert to Islam, never I would become Muslim.
Like I said Islam is atemporal and perfect...not the Muslims.

Now Its your test...the test of your Faith, if your faith don't resist to "lies" against the Prophet Muhammad(PBUH), I'm sorry for you.

:salam2: Dear sister i would like you to read the book " THE HONOR OF WOMEN IN ISLAM" by yusuf da costa. Also whoever is telling you islam allows killing and all is showing you a single line and not the whole paragragh. Also you have to read before and after which will tell you what Allah is trying to tell you about.

When people hear that the Prophet Muhammad salla allahu alayhi wassallam had many wives they conclude without much thought that the prophet was a sensuous man. However, a quick historical review of his marriages, proves otherwise.

When he was twenty-five years old he married for the first time. His wife, Khadijah, was fifteen years older than he. She remained the only wife of the prophet for the next twenty-five years, until she died (may Allah be pleased with her). Only after her death, did the Prophet Muhammad salla allahu alayhi wassallam marry other women. Now, it is obvious that if the prophet was after physical pleasure he did not have to wait until he was more than fifty years old to start marrying more wives. He lived in a society in which it was quite acceptable to have many wives. But the Prophet Muhammad salla allahu alayhi wassallam remained devoted to his only wife for twenty-five years. When she died, she was 65 years old.

His later marriages were for various reasons. Some marriages were with the view to help the women whose husbands had been killed while they were defending their faith. Others were with a view to cement relationships with devoted followers like Abu Bakr, may Allah be pleased with him. Yet others were to build bridges with various tribes who were otherwise at war with the Muslims. When the Prophet Muhammad salla allahu alayhi wassallam became their relative through marriage, their hostilities calmed down and much bloodshed was averted.

What did Mahatma Gandhi say about Muhammad?
The following is an interesting statement about the Prophet Muhammad salla allahu alayhi wasallam as described by Mahatma Gandhi, the father of Indian independence.

“I wanted to know the best of one who holds today’s undisputed sway over the hearts of millions of mankind….I became more than convinced that it was not the sword that won a place for Islam in those days in the scheme of life. It was the rigid simplicity, the utter self-effacement of the Prophet, the scrupulous regard for his pledges, his intense devotion to this friends and followers, his intrepidity, his fearlessness, his absolute trust in God and in his own mission. These and not the sword carried everything before them and surmounted every obstacle. When I closed the 2nd volume [of the Prophet’s biography], I was sorry there was not more for me to read of the great life.”
