inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji un is a cure for your oppressed heart, terrified soul, and longed breaths.

When a Muslim loses one of his beloved persons, his heart will be as you get it out from his chest, Allah knows, and he listens even to your disturbed heartbeats.

Inna lillahi wa Inna ilayhi rajioon is a sentence of a sincere Muslim, who knows that all of us will return to Allah, and we asked him for a beautiful return, all world calamities are not equal to Allah’s satisfaction.

Inna lillahi wa Inna ilaihi rajiun keeps our souls protected from Satan’s domination and whispers, it’s a reminder to your broken heart we will return to Allah, don’t panic, all life’s afflictions will be forgotten in Heaven.

Innalillahiwainnailaihirojiun Meaning

Our beloved prophet PBUH said:

“ When the son of a servant dies, Allah asks His angels, did you take the son of our servant, they answer yes, and He asks Again did you take the fruit of his heart, they answer yes.

Allah asks what did he do, the servant after his son’s death, the angels answer praise and said Inna Lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un.

Then Allah said, build for my servant a house in paradise and call it the house of the praise.

The scholars said the terminal meaning of Inna lillahi wa inallah rajioon is divided into two meanings, and they are:

  • We belong to Allah

The first meaning is to admit and believe that your soul, your family, and your wealth, don’t belong to you, they belong to Allah.

He lends you all you have, and when he returns them back, he takes what he possessed from the beginning.

  • We will return to him

Our final destination is to Allah, everyone will come on A resurrection day alone, his family and wealth will not be in his interest. He will be busy with his own deeds and sins, and his infinite life will be in Jannah, or in firing Jahanam.

English Translation of Inna Lillahiwa InnaIlayhi Rajioon:

Innalillahiwainnailaihirojiun is an Arabic sentence that is composed of five words, and they are:

Inna: that means all of us, all creatures

Lillahi: it consisted of preposition and the name of Allah, which means to Allah that we belong to our Lord, he is the Owner of Sovereignty.

wa inna: and we are, that’s the second time, to affirm the meaning in our souls and minds, that we are servants of the almighty lord, we believe that we don’t possess anything in ourselves.

Ilayhi rajioon: we will return to him, he is the first and the last, he is the initiator who initiates us from nothing, and he is the restorer who will restore us to the first state of” nothing” again.

inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji un means that We belong to God and indeed, to Him, we will return, we are satisfied, and we strive to please Allah.

Inna Lillahi Wa Inna Ilayhi Rajioon Transliteration

Transliteration is representing the letters of one language with the letters of another language, to help people who can’t read Arabic pronounce it correctly:

  1. inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji un
  2. Inna lillahi wa Inna ilayhi rajioon.
  3. Inna lillahi wa Inna ilaihi rajiun.
  4. Inna Lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un.
  5. Inna lillahi wa inallah rajioon
  6. innalillahiwainnailaihirojiun
  7. ina Lilah waina Allah rajiun
  8. Inna lillahi wa inallah-e-raji’oon

Inna lillahiwa Inna ilayhi raji’un Full Dua

It was narrated by Um Salama, the mother of the believers and our Beloved prophet’s PBUH wife, of the authority of the prophet PBUH that, she heard the prophet saying:

“If any Muslim who suffers some calamity says what God has commanded him, ‘We belong to God and to Him do we return; O God, reward me for my affliction and give me something better than it in exchange for it,’ God will give him something better than it in exchange.”

When she lost her husband, Abou Salama, she asked the beloved prophet who would be better than abou Salama, and the answer was that she was married to the best of all mankind, the prophet PBUH.

The meaning of this dua doesn’t mean that we will forget the beloved one or want to forget, but its importance is in our deep belief in Allah that he will relieve our pain.

Our Lord’s treasuries are full, all your life affairs are between his hand, he can change your condition to a better one, and replace your loss, pain, and shortage with tranquility, strength, and sufficiency.

Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un in arabic

Inna lillahi wa Inna ilayhi rajioon. Is an Arabic phrase

إنا لله وإنا إليه راجعون

it represents a complete submission of Muslims to Allah, and complete satisfaction with his actions over his creatures.

We are his own servants, and he is the creator of all powers, all the universe was nothingness, and all the universe will return to the first state that day Allah will say.” To whom belongs the dominion today, to God is the One, the Omnipotent” Ghafer verse 16.

There is no problem with saying inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji un or any other Dua translated into English or any other language, but it’s not permissible during the prayer, and anyway it’s preferable to learn the Arabic Language.

what does inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un?

Allah said in Al Baqarah surah in the verses no 155 and 156:

“And We will surely test you with something of fear and hunger, and a loss of wealth, lives, and fruits, and give good tidings to the patient (155) who, when calamity befalls them, say: We belong to God and to Him we shall return (156)”

” ولنبلونكم بشيء من الخوف والجوع ونقص من الأموال والأنفس والثمرات وبشر الصابرين (155) الذين إذا أصابتهم مصيبة قالوا إنا لله وإنا إليه راجعون (156) “

inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji un
, is a sign of a complete submission, although your heart is torn, you only says what is pleasing your Lord.

You say that we belong to Allah, his weak creatures and submissive servants, and we know with our deep faith that our terminal end is to him.

inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji un, is to say by your tongue to make your heart listen, despite the severity of calamity, but his treasuries are full, and his command is when he says to anything be, it will definitely be, and he gave us good tidings, and we aspire to please Him.

How to reply to inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un?

The prophet PBUH taught us, saying in case of solace,” to Allah what he gave, and to Allah what he took, and he measured everything, we belong to him, and we will return to him”

That could be your saying when you lose a loved one, and it could be your reply to a person who lost his.

A person who has a calamity, whatever it is, needs your supplications, for his heart to be cured of his deep sadness, and for the beloved one who was gone to have Allah’s Mercy and reach the highest degrees.

So, you could reply to him by praying for him and for the dead one.

Why do we say inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un?

We are saying Inna lillahi wa Inna ilaihi rajiun as a clear sign that we are servants of our Lord, not indignant at the affliction and all that we aspire to in our life his pleasing and mercy.

When could we say Inna lillahi wa Inna ilaihi rajiun?

Life is full of misfortunes and afflictions, all of them are tests for us and the results of those tests are according to how did we act after them. We accepted our Lord’s deeds with deep patience, although we have deep tearing, or we were indignant of god’s decree?!

Now we will mention some occasions that we should say Inna lillahi wa Inna ilaihi rajiun in:

Death

When you lost one of your beloved persons, those whose death is as if someone ripped your heart out of your chest, your eyes are either stony or overflowing with tears, your tongue is speechless and your soul screams.

The prophet PBUH said:(If the son of a servant dies, God says to His angels: Did you take away the son of My servant? They say: Yes, he says: Did you take the fruit of his heart? They say: Yes, he says: So what did My servant say? They say: Praise you, and take it back, so God Almighty says: Build for My servant a house in Paradise, and call it: The House of Praise) Narrated by Al-Tirmidhi, A good hadith.

Here Allah describes the son, as the fruit of heart, which means that he has a special place in his heart, and hearts long for their inhabitants, so the gift of his patience is a special house in paradise.

Calamity

Calamity means every disaster that could happen to you, losing money, job, house, car, and any other blessings that Allah bestowed over us, Allah mentioned the calamities which could happen in Al baqara surah:

“And We will surely test you with something of fear and hunger, and a loss of wealth, lives, and fruits, and give good tidings to the patient (155) who, when calamity befalls them, say: We belong to God and to Him, we shall return (156)”

But the greatest calamity that could happen to Muslims is the calamity in our religion, not only for you but for seeing other Muslims fall in sins and are far away from what Allah commanded us to do. We will say on this occasion with fully broken hearts, Inna lillahi wa Inna ilaihi rajiun.

Our beloved prophet PBUH supplicated to Allah and said “ and don’t make our calamity in our religion” Amen.

Summary

inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji un, is an Arabic phrase that Muslims say when disaster happens to them.

inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji un means we belong to Allah, and we all will return to him alone without our family or our wealth.

Allah gave the servant who said inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji un if he lost his son, a house in paradise and the name of the house is praise house.

The prophet taught us, when bad things happen to us, to say we belong to Allah, and we will return to him, O Allah reward us for my calamity and replace it for another better than it.
