The following modules are running this semester:
Access to Arabic and Tajweed is for complete beginners who cannot read or write Arabic. Students will be taught with the recitation of the Qur'an as the main learning outcome and thus correct pronunciation and aspects of Tajweed will also be integrated in to the course. This course will also incorporate some basic Arabic language skills by building up basic vocabulary and developing some writing skills.
Level 1 Arabic is the first of the courses and it incorporates an excellent introduction to the basics of the Arabic Language. At level 1, students will be introduced to basic grammar in conjunction with selected chapters from books such as al-Kitab al-Asasi and tailor made worksheets to help students apply their knowledge of the grammar concepts and develop a broad vocabulary.
Level 2 Arabic is the second course in the programme. It continues on from Level 1 and introduces more grammar topics and more complex and varied vocabulary. Also at Level 2, selected chapters from books such as al-Kitab al-Asasi and tailor made worksheets to help students apply their knowledge of the grammar concepts and broaden their vocabulary.
Level 3 Arabic is the third course in the programme. It continues on from Level 2 and completes the key grammar topics necessary to access Arabic texts. Students will also begin studying some Arabic texts, as well as develop confidence in I'rab translation and composition.
Level 6 Arabic is the last course at ISP2. This course will mostly be taught directly in Arabic. At level 6 students will build on the standard of language achieved at levels 1-5 and progress on to studying more complex texts directly in Arabic and developing proficiency in the practical application of the language. This will be progressed further at levels 7 and 8 enabling students to be able to read fluently with a good understanding of a broad range of texts and be able to converse confidently using vocabulary of a broad range of conversational themes.
Arabic Literature is a course which aims to improve students’ ability to understand and speak Arabic better. Generally, this course will use different examples from Arabic literature to improve students' ability to apply grammar. The course will be taught partially in Arabic and expect students to speak in Arabic thus improving their overall comprehension and speech.
