Salam alaikum all,
Firstly, I hope you're all doing well. Secondly, I'd like to reiterate a situation I recently came across. A Yemeni brother and his family recently migrated to the United States from Yemen and had barely been in New York for two weeks when there was a sudden gas explosion in their building and their entire apartment was set ablaze. Now although 20 people were injured, this brother and his family suffered the most as he lost his wife and four out of his five daughters had to be hospitalized.
A few of the sisters of my MSA and I recently visited him and he is in severe need of funds as he used to work at a deli but then had to quit his job after this incident as he now has to take care of his five daughters without his wife. Of course, their grandmother has also arrived to help take care of them but after meeting this man and learning of his struggle, it is an obvious fact that this is a momentous task for him.
After meeting him I was overwhelmed because he truly is a loving and devoted father to his little girls and he himself is too young to take on such a burden alone. Two of his daughters are in good condition and have been discharged; however, three of them still remain in the hospital. All 3 of them had previously been burned on over 80% of their bodies but alhamdulillah they've managed to recover from those and that itself is a true miracle considered by everyone. However, one (a 9-year old) is currently suffering from a respiratory virus and is constantly sedated as she is connected to a feeding tube and a respirator. The doctors aren't sure of her chances. And another girl (3 years old) is now blind because of an infection in her eyes resulting from the gas explosion.
Brothers and sisters, you can't begin to imagine how overwhelmed I was after meeting this man and his daughters. Despite the fact that he has gone through the worst of all tragedies, he remains optimistic and his unwavering faith in Allah left me in awe. He is within every right to mourn his wife yet the fact that she was shaheed (she had died from the fire, during Ramadan, immediately after praying Asr, AND on Laylat Al Qadr) gave him the peace that he so deserves and he is unwavering in his trust in Allah that inshAllah his wife is in Jannah. This is in addition to the fact that he has not asked for anything from anyone but hearing of the obstacles that he is going through would be an appeal to any human being with a soul.
I really want to raise funds for him somehow but I wouldn't know where to begin or how to go about it. Does anyone have any suggestions? My request to you is that I ask you keep him and his family in your prayers.
(I would include a link to this incident but I'm not sure if I'm allowed to post it.)
