A Flood Of Forgiveness.

Salaam everyone,
Today we are already in the second week of Ramadan, 2013..1434 A.H, when Muslims all over the world have been Fasting for the sake of our Lord/Creator and Sustainer, Allah, Gloried and Praised is He. While Fasting, we keep away (from dawn to sunset) from food, drinks, sexual relations and all unlawful things.

The Noble Messenger of Allah, Sallallahu alaihi Wasallam, said:--

" In each night of Ramadan, Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala, exempts 600,000 people
from Hell and when the last night of Ramadan comes, He exempts as many people
from Hell as He has exempted in the entire month up till that night".

[ At-Targheeb wa At-Tarheeb]

Allahu Akbar!! what a flood of Forgiveness and Blessings. This is among the reasons why the Messenger of Allah, Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, mentioned it that if this Ummah were to know what Ramadan is, they would wish for the whole year to be Ramadan....

Wa aleikum salam

I wish to know inshaAllah what the hadith above means. I am a little confused, because i read there will be only One Day of Judgment, when people will enter either Paradise or Hell. The hadith speeks as if people are already in these places, now, in this time of ours...
Thank you

wa salam

Question:

What is the your opinion with regards the book at-Targheeb wat-Tarheeb of Hafidh al-Mundhiree rahimahullaah? And which of the two books shall I read at-Targheeb orRiyaadh us-Saaliheen?

Answer:

The book at-Targheeb wat-Tarheeb of Hafidh al-Mundhiree is a good book but his selection of authentic Hadiths are not to the level of Riyaadh us-Saaliheen. SinceRiyaadh us-Saaliheen of an-Nawawee is more refined in Hadith than it.
As for the book at-Targheeb wat-Tarheeb then in it are Hadiths which are weak (Da'eef), and it has terminology which is particular to it, that is when he mentions at the beginning of the Hadith Ruwiya (it has been reported) or Hukiya (it has been mentioned) or a form from the forms of Tamreedh the passive verb form [where the subject of the sentence is unnamed], then that indeed is an indication of the Hadithbeing weak (Da’eef) and al-Mundhiree refers to this terminology in his introduction.
It also has another terminology, which is, when he mentions a narrator or two narrators from the Sanad (chain of narration) before the companion then it is known that theSanad (chain of narration) has some weakness (D’af) in it with regards to the narrator or the two narrators which he has mentioned from the Sanad (chain).
Al-Haafidh al-Mundhiree has given a biography of each one of those narrators whom he has mentioned and he speaks regarding them at the end of the book. So with this then al-Mundhiree rahimahullaah is excused for that which he mentions from the Hadiths. That is since he has clarified the grade of majority of them and the condition of the narrators that have been spoken about [i.e. disparaged]. Then what remains is your role, either you accept the Hadith or you do not accept it. But the ruling upon the Hadithfrom the point of view of the terminologies that al-Mundhiree has employed is in need of expertise in this subject matter, so whoever finds in himself this expertise then there is no harm in him reading the book at-Targheeb and benefiting from that which it contains. As for the one who sees that he does not have the likes of this expertise then it is better for him that he reads from the book Riyaadh us-Saaliheen of an-Nawawee; since it is more refined in Hadith from at-Targheeb wat-Tarheeb and is more clear in its approach and methodology.
And Allaah knows best and may the peace and blessings of Allaah be upon His servant and His Messenger Muhammad.

Ah, here's the hadeeth.
It was It narrated that al-Hasan said: The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Every night of Ramadaan Allaah has six hundred thousand whom He ransoms from the Fire. And on the last night Allaah ransoms a number equivalent to those whom He has already ransomed.”
This is a da’eef hadeeth. Da’eef al-Targheeb, 598

Similar ones which are also da`eef,
The report narrated from Abu Hurayrah (may Allaah be pleased with him), according to which the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “When the first night of Ramadaan comes, Allaah looks at His creation, and if Allaah looks at a person He will never punish him. And every day Allaah has one thousand thousand whom He ransoms from the Fire. On the twenty-ninth night Allaah ransoms a number equivalent to the number whom He has already ransomed during the entire month.”
This is a mawdoo’ hadeeth. Da’eef al-Targheeb, 591 and al-Silsilah al-Da’eefah, 5468

It was narrated from Ibn ‘Abbaas (may Allaah be pleased with him) that he heard the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) say: “Paradise is scented with incense and adorned throughout the year, in preparation for the beginning of the month of Ramadaan. On the first night of the month of Ramadaan, a wind called al-matheerah comes from beneath the Throne… And on each day of the month of Ramadaan at the time of breaking the fast, Allaah has one thousand thousand whom He ransoms from the Fire, all of whom deserved to go to Hell. And on the last day of the month of Ramadaan, Allaah ransoms on that day a number equivalent to all those whom He ransomed from the beginning of the month to the end.
This is a mawdoo’ hadeeth. Da’eef al-Targheeb, 594.
