Prophet Muhammad (saw)
Prophet Isa (as)
Prophet Ismail (as)
The Mothers of Imam Ahmad, Imam Ash- Shafi'i, Imam Bukhari

The best of creation: Prophets of Allah - and our greatest scholars. What else unites them?

Each one of these legendary figures were raised by a mother who, defying all odds, overcame the struggle of parenthood alone and single-handedly nurtured men who were nations unto themselves.

Our rich history is embroidered with their illustrious example and with the lessons these lone mothers sent forward. To this day, we continue to bask in the legacy which these women set in motion. Fast forward to the present, the sisters in our midst are face an equally daunting task before them. Today, many of our children have been left vulnerable, their fathers separated from them, living effectively as orphans, raised in the shade of their mothers, having to fulfil the role of both parents. Yet this classical legacy and honour bestowed upon our mothers has been forgotten, with the community turning a blind eye and looking down upon those who effectively struggle alone as single mothers.

There is no easy cliché which can describe motherhood. The birth of a child is followed by a symphony of euphoric highs, soul-crushing lows; anxieties, stresses, responsibilities, a journey with an uncertain path.

Imagine then, the loss of your support network at this time. Your husband, your family, your community suddenly disappearing from the scene. Within mere hours, you have not only lost your partner in a marriage, but in every facet of your life. Your home shattered; your financial security is rocked; your community greet you with suspicion, preferring to keep a distance; and your children are left with confusion and questions, trauma and often rage and resentment at their tragic predicament.

This scenario is the waking nightmare of the many 'single' mothers HHUGS supports; Women whose struggles are only compounded by the loneliness, abandonment and isolation they face.

As we recall the blessed example of Maryam (as) and Hajar (ra), join us for an evening of inspiration where we draw strength from the heroines amongst us, both past and present. Journey with us through the ages as we follow their footsteps, to stand in solidarity together with the single mothers left to nurture and raise the next generation. Our illustrious mothers stood alone and yet determined- their lives serving as a source of endless inspiration for the single mothers of today. Let us honour and revive their legacy, and join hands to empower and restore hope in the hearts our of abandoned sisters today.

"Women are half the Ummah and they give birth to the other half, so they are the whole Ummah." -Ibn al Qayyim
