'What is the difference between fasting in Christianity and Islam? The Islamic fast is highly well defined. You know when exactly to begin and end daily, but the lunar calendar that guides the period creates division, at least in Nigeria.

In Christianity, there is no uniformity at all. For Catholics, fasting does not mean total abstinence from three meals daily, but less quantity than usual; you are to avoid meat, but you can take snail or whatever has no blood. Some other Christians would abstain throughout the day, or as the spirit directs.'

The above quotation is an excerpt from a letter written to the Nigerian newspaper, the 'Guardian'. I have only quoted what was relevant to the theme in general.
