Alas!

Alas!
By Ahmad Abu Khattab

Your knees have met the sinking ground,
Your eye has met it's final tear.
Your mouth has met it's final breath,
Your slowing heart has met the fear.

The sand beneath begins to immerse,
Hugging your legs and taking them in.
The light in the sky begins to dim,
Your mouth sewed shut with the poisonous pin.

A heavy slate drags from your left,
A weight like nothing drags from the right.
Your face like coal that seers the eyes,
What has happened to your glowing light?

At last to dust you have returned,
A bed of dirt is where you lie.
Crushed you are by the surrounding earth,
Unable to move no matter how hard you try.

Regret a sense that strikes your nerves,
"I wish, I wish" you begin to say.
Reality now evident when your time has ceased,
What is your result for that final day?

What is it I shout again?
What is your result for that final day?
What is your result for that final day?
When you face your Lord what will you say?

Alas! You've entered the blackened ground,
Alone you are as you see the approaching two.
Festering faces and a reaping task,
Alas! Your ending is evidently blue.
