As-salaamu-alaikum. If someone consumes alcohol, their prayers are not accepted for 40 days. But they can still pray, they just won't recieve a reward for it......... Correct? But if they consume alcohol, and repent (sincere tauba) 3 days later, will Allah accept their repentence? Or is it invalid because 40 days has not yet passed? even if a person drank, he or she MUST pray....by not praying he will be doing another major sin.
the repentance should be made as early as possible. if Allah has guided the person's heart to tawbah...no need to wait for 40 days....make it at that very moment.

This is an issue I am dealing with in my own life, to the point where I am considering seeking counseling for depression and substance abuse. I'm tired of feeling depressed and angry all of the time.

Brother, I would recommend doing that and not waiting. My husband has a drinking issue that almost ended our marriage earlier this year. I will keep you in my dua's that Allah (swt) provides you with help with your issues. I know it isn't easy but help is out there brother.

Yeah I've been looking online at treatment options and I'm going to call or email somebody soon.
I haven't told my family or friends about this yet.
