:bismillah1:
:salam2:

A few days back, I was wondering why we need to say for everything - Alhamdulilah, SubhaanAllah, AllahuAkbar, Bismillah, Subhaan Allah wa bi hamdih, Subhaan Allah il-Azeem etc. Why do we need to always wet our tongues with the remembrance of Allah SWT?

One day, I was listening to a lecture by an Imam. In the lecture, he narrated a story, the story goes like. Once there was a man living in an island, he worshipped Allah SWT for around 600 years. Every day, every moment, he devoted his time for Allah SWT. He prayed to Allah SWT to have his soul taken when he was in sujood/sajda. And as he made prayed day and night, Allah SWT accepted his dua'a and his soul was taken when he was prostrating/sujood. When he was made to stand in front of Allah SWT, Allah SWT commanded the angels to put this man into Jannah by HIS Rehamat(mercy), but this man asked Allah SWT to put him into Jannah through his unflinching worship for 600 years. Then Allah SWT commanded the angels to bring the scales. After it was brought forward, Allah SWT put all the 600 years of his worship on one side of the scale and put just the eye sight, the vision of the man on another and guess what, the eye sight weighed more!! And then Allah SWT commanded the angels to put the man in Jahannum. When he was being dragged, he pleaded Allah SWT to put him into Jannah through HIS Rehamat. Then Allah SWT accepted his plea and entered him to Jannah through HIS Rehamat(mercy).

The thing that triggered my thoughts was that, just the eye sight of the person weighed more than 600 years of his worship, I wonder what would be my state when I can't find even 2 hours in a day for Allah SWT, in spite of which I expect to be granted Jannah. I wonder how will I stand in front of Allah SWT and look up to HIM and answer HIM. I wonder how I will stand in front of Prophets, the Great Sahabas, and the pious people with their immeasurable imaan. I wonder, would I even have the courage to look up and talk? look up and answer the questions being put forth to me? Worst part of all was when I imagined the scene of the J-DAY. There would be nowhere to hide my face. What would be the use of crying that day, when whole of humanity would be seeing my deeds, where will I run? Behind whom will I hide on that DAY? All these thoughts, brought tears in my eyes. And the only words my heart let out were "Ya Allah!! Indeed by your mercy did you create us, Indeed by your mercy you have provided us this earth, gave us food, shelter, clothing and money, Indeed by your mercy that I live, breathe every day, Indeed by your mercy you have granted us so many favors of yours. I know we all have sinned, sinned to the extent that there is no recompense. But Ya Rabb!! Please forgive our sins, please forgive our sins. Indeed, it is true, You are Ar-Rahman, Ar-Rahmeen, and indeed you are Al-Ghafur. Please forgive us Ya Allah!!"

And that Day I understood the meaning of Ar-Rehman. Maybe, just Maybe, the Surah was revealed to emphasize on the fact that everything that was and is created, everything that is surviving is because of HIS mercy. Maybe that is why it is the first ayah of the whole surah. Just a word with so much meaning to it. No wonder there is a whole Surah based on it. And the next time I read the Surah Ar-Rehman. Alhamdulilah. SubhaanAllah, It gave a totally new dimension, a new view to it.

So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny? [Surah Ar-Rehman : 13]

That was the day I realized why is it that for everything we tell Alhamdulilah, SubhaanAllah, AllahuAkbar, Bismillah, Subhaan Allah wa bi hamdih, Subhaan Allah il-Azeem etc. Plus a bonus of doing zikr is that

Those who believe (in the Oneness of Allah - Islamic Monotheism), and whose hearts find rest in the remembrance of Allah, Verily, in the remembrance of Allah do hearts find rest. [Surah Ar-Rad : 28]

The Messenger of Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said: "Two words which are light on the tongue but will weigh heavily in the Balance, and they are beloved to the Most Merciful: "Subhaan Allah wa bi hamdih, Subhaan Allah il-Azeem" (Glory and praise be to Allah, Glory be to Allah the Almighty)." [Bukhari]
