kataba sami kitaban كَتَبَ سامي كَتاباً
(Sami wrote a book.)

kataba : he wrote
kitaban : a book, when used as a complement.
Normally, Arabic for 'a book' is kitabun كِتابٌ
All nouns are like this:
diftarun (a copybook) دِفْتَرٌ
manzilun (a house) مَنْزِلٌ
baytun (a room) بَيْتٌ
etc.
When nouns are used as complements they take 'an':

kitabun becomes kitaban
manzilun becomes manzilan
baytun becomes baytan
