السلام عليكم

I became a muslim not long ago and I am still in the learning process :) so my question is , are Prophets sinless ?
and if they are , how can we follow them ? Prophets have to be humans like us but if they are sinless that will make them alittle bit inhuman(I hope inhuman is a proper word) in a way.

I have heared many debates and in some of them it's mentioned that prophets have to be humans in every way so that we can imitate them and consider them our highest example.

I suggest brother that u read the tafseer of Sura Abasa, which is sura number 80. The tafseer will help u very much on the issue.

Asalaamalikum,

Prophets of God, according to the Muslim faith, are people selected by God Himself to deliver His message to mankind. The Muslim belief that Prophets are sinless primarily relates to the fact that the Prophets of God delivered His message in its purest form. They did not add anything to it, on their own, and neither did they hold anything back from it. The Qur'an says that because Muhammad (pbuh) is a true Prophet of God, therefore, if this true Prophet falsely ascribes something to God, he shall then be punished like no other individual. The Qur'an says:

Had he invented lies concerning Us, We would have seized him by the right hand and severed his heart's vein; and no one from amongst you could have protected him (from Us). (Al-Haqqah 69: 44 - 47)

The Qur'an also tells us that to supervise the unadulterated deliverance of the message, the prophets are closely observed by God. It says:

As for the messengers whom He has chosen, He guards them from the front and from behind to make sure that they have delivered the messages of their Lord. (Al-Jinn 72: 27 - 28)

Besides this, Muslims also believe that because God Himself, on the basis of His all encompassing knowledge, selected these prophets for delivering His message and to become a model for their followers, therefore these prophets must have been the best of mankind living in their particular times and societies. But this does not mean that the prophets do not commit any mistakes. Mistake, as we know is not synonymous with sin. These prophets may commit mistakes, which are corrected by God, but these mistakes are not sins. Even these mistakes are in the way of righteousness.

Prophet not only make mistakes but also commit sins. It started with Adam (that is generally accepted as a prophet) and Eve who commited a sin by 'disobeying' god. Of course such disobedience is not just a mistake but a sin. Moses killed a man while defending a friend. He did not mean to kill him but he punched him hard enough that caused him to die. That was a sin not just a mistake.

The idea of a 'perfect' sinless human being is hopeless. That's why our struggle to refrain from sinning is precious. If prophets were created sinless by god, then they didn't deserve the status given to them. They were great people because they could also sin like the rest of us but they chose not to out of fear of God. They struggled as prophet Yusuf did struggle in his encounter with the egyptian woman. Abraham struggled in his encounter with Satan who wanted to persuade him not to sacrifice his son for God. What makes them special is that they overcame their whims and desires and fought their Nafs and succeeded by god's mercy. And god's mercy is there for everyone. If we try as hard as they did, we can also benefit from that mercy and become better and better and get closer and closer to their state.

No, they are not sinless. No matter who they are they are still humans and humans make mistakes, however, they used to repent to Allah.

Do u remember the story of Yunus, did Allah not punish him for leaving his people and Allah had commanded him to guide them no matter how wrong they do him. And many other prophets as well!!
