I'm a Australian and a former "skinhead". Over the last 8 months I've been studying Islam and finding so much wonderful information about a faith that, in the past, I have been ignorant too.

It is a long hard road I'm travelling on in my life and after reading a Noble Quran borrowed from the local libary, I've have found that journey has become more enjoyable.

I think I better clarify something first. I was a former "Skinhead" (yes neo-nazi,racist and all that rubbish). It is something I am deeply ashamed of but i can't forgot because it was a part of my life. The reasons I left the movement are complicated and I don't feel comfortable laying out my life in the open right now. Maybe one day I will but not just now.

I started to research Islam after the seeing the hatred of some my fellow countrymen towards Muslims . I wanted to know if it was true what they were saying about Islam being a Murderous religon that condone the mis- treatment and subjugation of women, wanted to kill all non muslims,that jihad was allowing the killing of men,women, and children through car bomb etc. So far I can find nothing in the Noble Quran that can justify these accusations. All i can find is a general theme of Respect,Tolerance and Beauty.

I hope that answer some questions.

*Globalpeace... don't know much about Kevin Rudd but I do he is definitely got John Howard on the run about the war in Iraq... about the Cricket, The poms deserved the Win.

Hey dont ever worry about your past, it what makes us all who we are!!!

Believe me there are many coverts to islam who have colourful pasts and tales to tell.....me included.

Even the imam at my local masjid has tatoos on him arms!!! Just chill out!!!

All us converts have pasts and some of them aren't what we wish they were. Some "born" Muslims have strayed and have things that they are ashamed of. I remember in college walking by a group of sisters with my friend we would touch our hair and act like it's a big deal, and say things like, "Oh my God hair!!!" It was pretty sad, and now I wear hijab. Allah guides who he wills. I have a good friend who's also a former skinhead, although he's not Muslim I think these people can play a huge role in dispelling the prejudices in our society because they first hand experience of how prejudiced people think. Welcome to the site, Isha'Allah we will be able to learn from each other.

And a little bonus for converts, when you convert everything is forgiven and it doesn't matter what you did before Islam. If it helps I can relate to the whole racist thing (or at least the stigma), while I was never racist myself my nickname in highschool was "Nazi" because my family is German, and even though I wasn't actually racist sometimes it led me to feel racist things and have prejudiced attitudes because it felt like no matter what I did people would see me as a racist.
