Benefits of fasting 'Ramadan' on our health...

There are many physical and psychological benefits of going without food for short and long periods of time.:

1) You give your stomach and digestive system a period of rest in which it can begin to relax and strengthen itself.

2) You allow time for the excess waste products which build up in your body to begin to break down and be eliminated. (You can accelerate this elimination process with اcleansing techniquesب which will be discussed). This factor is invaluable in healing yourselves of disease.

3) The mind is less attached to desires which cause so many emotional difficulties when one does without food for a day or so. We inevitable feel good when we sacrifice something for an ideal.

4) The mind has more clarity when the body is not filled with large quantities of food

Medical Reasons for Fasting

Another topic on which there is medical agreement is the benefit – actually, the necessity -- of fasting before surgery.

"You don’t want the body to be digesting food as it manages the slower breathing [and other body changes] under anesthesia," says Fernstrom.

Fasting is also required to get accurate readings for certain medical tests. Short-term fasting before tests for cholesterol and blood sugar levels, for example, helps achieve a more accurate baseline count.

Fasting to Treat Disease

Fasting advocates also claim that the practice can effectively treat serious health conditions, from arthritis and colitis to heart disease and depression.

In his practice, Fuhrman tells WebMD, he has seen fasting -- combined with improving the diet before and afterward -- eliminate lupus, arthritis and chronic skin conditions like psoriasis and eczema. He says he has also seen fasting heal the digestive tracts of those with ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease, and lower blood pressure.

"Fasting followed by a vegetarian diet interferes with the immune system’s activities, especially if the immune system is overreacting, as it does with rheumatoid arthritis," and other auto-immune diseases, he says. He cites half a dozen studies published in medical journals ranging from the American Journal of Physiology – Endocrinology and Metabolism to the Scandinavian Journal of Rheumatology.

A general improvement in arthritic pain and swelling has been observed on day four or five of the fast, and pain and swelling generally remains absent for the duration of the fast. However, patients do not observe long term benefits from fasting and symptoms return within one week of resuming a normal diet.

Fasting for Longer Life

"There are hundreds of studies showing that when animals are fed fewer calories they live longer," says Fuhrman.

Studies on animals ranging from earthworms to monkeys have shown that alternating cycles of fasting and very calorie-restricted diets is a reliable way to extend the lifespan.

"The excess calories Americans eat shorten their lives," says Fuhrman.

If you want to live longer, Fuhrman’s best advice is to "eat healthy and fast periodically."

( The reason I have chosen this advices from non-muslims, is to show how the Qur'an and Sunnah our prophet (PBUH) 1400 years ago, stated the benefits of fastings (Physically, and psychologically). Recent science discovered that if you fast you are less likely to be attached to desires, (we were advised by our prophet (PBUH) 1400 years ago that the best way to avoid prohibited relationships (physical and psychological desires) is by fasting..Subhanallah...) .... Alhamdullah...

'' O Allah, to You belongs all praise, You are the light of the heavens and the Earth and all that is within them. To You belongs all praise, You are the Sustainer of the heavens and the Earth and all that is within them. To youbelongs all praise. You are Lord of the Heavens and the Earth and all that is within them. To You belongs all praise and the Kingodon of the Heavens and Earth and all that is within them. To you belongs all praise, You are the King of the Heavens and the Earth and to belongs all praise. You are The Truth, Your promise is true, Your Word is true, and the Day in which we will encounter. You are true, the Gardens of Paradise is true, and Fire is true, and the Prophets are true, Mohammed :saw: is true and the Final Hour is true. O Allah, unto You we have submitted, and upon we have relied, and in You we have believed and to You we have turned in repentance, and over You we have disputed, and to You we have turned for judgement. So forgive us for what has come to pass of our sins and what will come to pass, and what we have hidden and what we have made public. You are Al-Muqaddim and Al-Mu'akhkhir''. Amiin, Amiin, Amiin

Subhanallah...

Allah (swt) has not required something of us..unless it has a reason and/or a consequence behind it..

and 100% of the time..it is of our own *personal* benefit..

what more can we need or want..when Allah (swt) Himself has set forth such requirements to protect us and our well-being???...Alhamduliallah!

Jazakallah Khair Brother Saifu deen

Assalamu alaykum,

I personally love Fasting; even I was young like fasting. I like fasting because to me it is do not give back, I mean I have been eat food for a year and fasting king makes you appreciate food and how good it is to not have a empty stomach. you never know how good what you have is untill you lost. so this does work for food.
