In New York, most masjids require that you have a blood test before you get married, to a point where the imam wont marry you without seeing proof, such as documentation etc...So what is it like where you live? Is this a requirement in order to get married?? Your views inshallah. Jazakallahu Khairan!:hijabi: :wasalam:

    Salaam,

Sister when I got married in the Metropolitian DC area it was a nightmare. DC gives a blood test. You pay a certain amount; wait three DC business days; and you have a choice of a civil or ecumenical ceremony.
The masjids there would not marry you unless you would bring proof of the blood test and civil ceremony.
Virginia was not as strict however they would not honor a religious ceremony unless you had proof of a civil service. This was 15 years ago. The explanation given to me was govermentimmitagtionwhateverittakestoirrateyouhogwash. Gays had it easier for a union.

    Assalam alaikum

    assalam Alaikum,

I think that everyone should be screened for any kind of disease before they get married. People and no discrimination here but Men do tend to live a wild life before getting married and it wouldn't be the first time I've heard women getting not very pleasant things that way. And well it just protects everyone, including men, from unwanted surprises later on, Insha Allah.

If you haven't got anything to hide I can't see what would be the problem in doing this.

    Fi amanillah,
    Sumaya

Blood test for what? not everything shows up in a blood test and besides someone may have caught an illness through no fault of their own or not even be aware of it.......presuming its a test for some kind of illness.

I have never heard of this and I am not sure it is right Islamically or right fullp-stop. If you fear your fiance has somekind of illness then ask them - people need to be adult and straightforward about these kind of things. At the same time though people shouldnt be judged if they are ill - its possible to catch things through non-haraam behaviour. Likewise is it fair to reject someone for marriage based on a genetic disorder they may have??

    I find this very odd.

    Salaam,

Be careful blood test results are kept for data and all kinds of intrusive information for the public domain.

    Assalaamu alaikum evryone again

sorry I forgot to say salaams to evryone in my previous post :shymuslima1: - just kind of surprised by this blood test thing! we certianly dont have that requirement here in the UK when you get married - if the couple want to do it then thats up to them.

I understand safeguarding of health but I am not sure its right Islamically to have this done as compulosry....don't know. Is it a legal requirement in the US for the Nikah to be recognised??

    Salaam,

What they do not publish is the number of people who have inadequate or no health insurance. This is a widely misrepresentative statictis aimed at the Black and Hispanic population. Also, Washington has had a reputation of being a gay town. Historically, it was a city that welcomed gay men and continues to. I sound sour but I have learned to question and research intensively. And we know the HIV virus was developed in a research lab in the suburbs of Maryland. It has nothing to do with sex.

Where did you hear this? Is this true? How does HIV have nothing to do with sex if its an STD?

    Salaam,

There are videos available; I will have to dig up the sites. But on PBS programs and especially the Pacifica radio stations there have been very notworhy people who have answers.
I am not a physician. It could stand to reason that it was designed to attack the immune system via sex. It is not a true STD.
    Allah forgive me.

    Salaam,

I read the post by Sister Jabba. That is the conventional line. We can not buy into this. Sister, it is a fact that AIDS was developed in a labatory. The people who assisted in the propaganda were promoted to hold high positions in places like the CDC in Atlanta.
Please research the archives of Pacifica radio.
These are the same people that blame Muslims for 911 and have told us that a man landed on the moon.

To return to the topic of the thread blood tests are not for simple reasons.

    Assalamu alaykum,

I wonder what happens if one of the couples has HIV OR AIDS or whatever. Will the result do some damage to marriage. Are there any couples that cancel their marriage because of the test result? It is funny, what is going through their mind when they are going to test place and if they know the affect it might have on future. to all the sisters and brothers on the web, what would you do if you find out the one you are going marry has a deadly disease and you really love and care about this person? I hope nothing like that happens to anyone.

why would you go for a blood test thats a bit out of line if your a religious person. if you do your istiqarah before you marry and put your trust in ALLAh no harm shall befall you no matter what happens. blood test isnt neccesery because it would mean that you dont trust the person your marriying then why should you do it. i live in london i dont nothing about america but i dont think people do tests here. to tell you the truth i've never see anyone who did a blood test before marrige in my 15 yrs of life.

Blood test are not 100% accurate, even if its negative, there is no gurantee you are free from something. We do have to be careful, but NOTHING is 100%. We do have dishonest people. They can have something, and not tell you. Most clinics in NYC give free hIV tests, and some do take advantage of it. If you have nothing to hide, then it should not be a problem in order to get married, depending where you are.But its a choice, Allah knows best!

    Salaam,

Sister the fundamental question that I have is why do we have to abide by the rules of the kuffir for our marriage ceromonies. Now, you have me thinking and next thing you know I will be at the headquarters of the ACLU. Please educate me.
