DALLAS, May 22nd, 2013 – A British soldier was allegedly beheaded by Islamic terrorists in the broad daylight of South London today. The incident occurred near the Royal Artillery Barracks at the intersection area of John Wilson and Woolwich street.
Eyewitness Michael Atley, 28, said the two suspects rammed their blue BMW 3-series into the pedestrian. They exited the vehicle and attacked the man with knives and meat clevers until near-decapitation. The reported soldier was wearing a bomber jacket and “Help for Heroes” t-shirt.
BBC has reported witnesses claim the men shouted “Allahu Akhbar”, meaning “God is great” in Arabic, while filming the beheading.
“We saw clearly two knives, meat cleavers, they were big kitchen knives like you would use in a butcher’s, they were hacking at this poor guy, we thought they were trying to remove organs from him,” witness “James” told LBC radio.
Before police arrived, both men approached bystanders, one of which caught one suspect on video. His hands are drenched in blood while justifying the murder on camera.
In a thick British accent, the suspect made a series of political statements.
“We swear by Almighty Allah, we will never stop fighting you until you leave us alone. The only reasons we killed this man is because Muslims are dying daily. This British soldier is an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth,” he said. “You will never be safe. Remove your government. They don’t care about you. I apologize that women had to witness this but in our land women have to see the same.”
The speaker returns to the victim’s body lying in the street, then approaches additional bystanders. Some witnesses jumped from their vehicles to shield the victim from the two men. Witnesses claim the attackers asked others to take photographs and videos of their actions.
“These two guys were crazed, they were not there, they were just animals. They then dragged him from the pavement and dumped his body in the middle of the road. There was only a few people at first then traffic began to build up because people were getting out of their cars to shout at them they were taking no notice, they were standing there, I think they were proud of what they were doing,” one witness claims.
One local woman claims she recognized the killers that reportedly preached in Woolwich town center last week. Her daughter, Rebecca France, 18, told the Telegraph, “It was really political and angry. She said she thought it was strange because he was different from the usual guys who preach in the name of Jesus - he wasn’t doing that.”
Police arrived 20 minutes after the incident. Both suspects reportedly waved pistols and meat cleavers at officers. They were shot by the law enforcement and are currently in critical condition.
The Muslim Council of Britain condemned the attacks and called for solidarity between communities.
“Our thoughts are with the victim and his family. This attack on a member of the Armed Forces is dishonorable, and no cause justifies this murder. This action will no doubt heighten tensions on the streets of the United Kingdom. We call on all our communities, Muslim and non-Muslim, to come together in solidarity to ensure the forces of hatred do not prevail.”
Prime Minister David Cameron called a meeting of the Government’s Cobra crisis committee, describing the incident as “truly shocking” and “appalling”. Cobra meetings are committees established after crisis-situations to coordinate the responses of local and national agencies. This suggests the beheading incident was a terrorist attack. The soldier has not yet been identified.
