why muslims never make any progress in science?

everybody knows al-khwarizmi for his contribution to algebra. does it matter if he prayed 5 times a day?

does it matter if ibn sina read the Quran?

after the Abbasid Caliphate, science, literature, technology, maths dropped like a rock.

if aakhira is all that matters, then why do we eat, drink, study and have children? why don't we put our heads in sujood and die like that? certainly we will gain a lot of sawaab if we did that?

Ibn Sina was a Quran hafiz at a young age

The key about the golden age was that it was Islam that gave the people the inspriation and the direction. as the Quran instructs empircal analysis of the world so that people can understand the world of God far more.

Throughout the Islamic empire knowledge was important (one of the reasons why majority of the great scholars flourished at the time so did the islamic sciences like hadith analysis).

even the caliphs supported the idea of aquring of knowledge - the translation movemnet was also a great help to advancing the muslims

OVERALL - its the mentality - we dont have it today instead we have a slave mentailty.

By the way there was some developments made during the Ottomans - like madrassa's hospitals etc.

Brother Sazk, check this out www.muslimheritage.com

We are not asked to leave duniya at all but we are asked to to do everything in limits. We are just stopped to RUSH after duniya. You can do research etc but you need to keep your beliefs correct.

Offcourse you can live with ur family, enjoy with them. Tell them jokes, laugh urself and make them laugh. Study, work and travel. But dont voilate the boundary of islam. Thats the key. You can wear excellent quality clothing. You can eat well. You can do everything BUT in limits.

I hope you got my point.

brothers and sisters i know about the golden age. but this is the 21st century. that was the 9th century. why is there no einstein equivalent amongst us now?

i wanna find out the root cause of our decline in mathematics and economics ( my interest is islamic banking actually)

the west only progressed when they became secular. we don't need to become secular because our religion is perfect. but what is it thats holding us back?

Can't speak for anybody other than myself,

I spent most of my youth wastefully and regretfully, astagfaruAllah!

Not that I am a genius either, but I noticed those who memorized Quran by age of 7 or 8, in college were able to memorize english books to a point that the professor would accuse them of cheating. One person in particular I met would quote the USA law books word for word and page after page in tests. He would read any book with the intent to memorize and word for word he would quote. The professors repeatedly accused him of cheating. This amazed me. So it must be what we are feed in our youth.

The main problem is that we as muslims have left the masjids as a source of community and learning, especially deserted are those at a young age, there is also a lot of distractions like tv, radio, etc. That take away from our prime age.

We need to start with ourselves, by becoming better muslims, following the Quran and Sunnah, and asking Allah for everything.

Of course, I am only speeking from my environment, my circle, my experience. This may not be the case all over the world. We surely could use better Islamic institutions that are recognized too.

masjids with good sheikhs are good sources of community and learning.

but most masjids themselves have illiterate mullahs who differ in their opinion of Tawheed. and Tawheed is the basic scholarly thing.

how can one expect to learn maths and technology by going to the mosque? this is the mentality that runs thru people: that guy is progressing, my children are not, let me stop him, lets hinder his path, guide him away from maths and science and medicine.

"but what is it thats holding us back? "

Its the distance from religion, which is holding us back. Since we arent into religion, we are in different haram activities. And this is the main reason for it. Those who are religious, dont think islam beyond namaz ,zakah and fastening.

Islam is not fully in practice. Not a single country has islamic laws implemented. Riba every where.. And u say that why we dont have any "Yaqub al kindi"?

Read the history first. Islam was so much well implemented and ALLAH bestowed us then.

السلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاته

As you all know, The main reason to our creation is to warship Allah the way HE wanted us to.. And since we are living in this world, We need to know about things that should help us make life easier.

Read about history and you'll find that when we muslims had strong faith in Allah (Talking about 100s of years ago) the muslim nation was very powerful in man power and knowledge. We had great muslim leaders, Warriors, Scholars and scientists. But as our faith started to get weaker and we became more obsessed with the joys of life, and more concerned with making a living. Things started to get worse and we started to fear for our lives more than fear from Allah.

To us, life became more important than our religion. This is a painful fact that many of us try to deny. In our hearts we are muslims and we try our best to be true practicing muslims.. But most of the time we find it hard to maintain a high level of faith, and we find ourselves so occupied with life.

I'm not saying that Islam is hard, Practicing Islam is very easy, The problem is that we are getting weaker.. Allah blessed us with many talents that we can use in the favour of Islam. But the hardship of life makes it hard for us to use those talents they way we should.

Another reason is the exaggerated misuse of technology, that brought us laziness and Dependency, that caused us to look for the easy ways. and run away from any Complexity.

Even if there are muslims scientists, we rarely hear about them.. why?! because everytime they try to make use of their knowledge they get treated with Negligence or disrespect.

And i'm sure there are many other reasons.. but i just wanted to point out what i believe are the main reasons for our fallback.
