Concept of Sin in Islam:

One muslem scholar wrote:
In Islam, a sin is an act against the will of Allah. We have the ability to abide by His will and this is the meaning of the word Islam. Still we have the ability to ignore His will or deliberately oppose it; due to the fact that God has given us freedom - though within limits).

Islam is our conscious and peaceful submission to the will of Allah. The purpose of our existence as human beings is to worship and serve Allah – or to fulfill His will. And, a solid foundation of worshipping Allah is to show gratitude to Him for the great gifts He has granted us. Following this will bring us the greatest benefits in this life and the next. It is in trying to do this that our intentions are purified and it is by our intentions that we are judged.

Sin = Rebelion to our Creator Allah

That is correct sister...BUT why is it so bad to comit sin? We see all humans commit sin....out of forgetfulness (word Insan (human) in arabic is derived from the root Nasian (forgetfulness)) thuse we forgetfulness is part of our nature as humans. This is exactly why Allah (SWT) send over 120,000 of HIS prophets out of His Mercy for our reminder. Because HE loves us so much...and certainly HE is the most Just..will not punish any sould without first warning them.

The other major reason why humans comit sin is due to their rebelion. We ignore who our Creator and Maintaintor is.... and violate His Law. This kind of sin is very very grave. You see that the Quran talks about Adam and satan's story over and over again. If we compare the two we see some similarities and some diffrences between them. They both were give free-will to chose between good or evil. Adam chose something that he was forbidden by Allah earlier; mostly out of forgetfulness. Satan rebelled mostly out of his arrogance. Because he considered himself superior than Adam and did not follow Allah's command when he was ordered to prostrate (sujood) in front of Adam. Thus the satan rebelled.

One other a big differenece between satan and Adam is that when Adam realized his mistake he felt ashamed in front of Allah and immediately repented. Satan on the other hand got even more rebelious thus was cursed by Allah and will remain so until eternity. May Allah protect us all muslim from his evil. he is a declared enemy of humans.

Thus when humans rebel to Allah's law's as they were revealed by HIM in His books through His true prophets..we become the allies and friends of the enemy of Allah..the cursed satan (shytan). Thus we must constant repent (Taubah) to Allah and keep returning our sincere intentions towards HIM alone.

Prophet (sws) said that all humans are sinners but the best amongst the sinners is one who repents to Allah (often). Prophet Mohammad (sws) also told us that he repented to Allah 70 times a day (or more). Subhan Allah, one whose all past and future sins were forgiven (the prophet)....if he needed to ask for Allah's repentance so often ..then how often do we need to seek Allah's forgiveness and return to HIM each day in repentance each day.


May Allah forgive all of our sins and change them into good deeds (as HE has promised for those who sincerilyturn to HIM in repentance). Ameen.

Sahih Muslim Book 035, Number 6522:
Al-Agharr al-Muzani, who was one amongst the Companions (of the Holy Prophet) reported that Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) said: There is (at times) some sort of shade upon my heart, and I seek forgiveness from Allah a hundred times a day.

Abu Huraira reported Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) as say- ing: He who seeks repentance (from the Lord) before the rising of the sun from the west (before the Day of Resurrection), Allah turns to him with Mercy.

Thank you brother for the beautiful post.....I think that the main obstacle that blocks hearts from submitting to Allah swt is arrogance ......Islam gives an efficient cure to this illness by making things clear ........that man is poor only Allah is rich:

35:15 O ye men! It is ye that have need of Allah. but Allah is the One Free of all wants, worthy of all praise.
Quran

When man reliaze that he is a poor humble slave of Alllah then all traces of arrogance will vanish and hearts will accept Truth more easily. Sujood on earth while prayer helps man to return to his pure true nature.
