Question:
Is it permissible for a woman to use false eyelashes?.

Answer:
Praise be to Allaah.

It is haraam for a woman to wear false eyelashes because they come under the heading of hair extensions, for which the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) cursed those who do that.

Al-Bukhaari and Muslim (2122) narrated that Asma’ bint Abi Bakr said: A woman came to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) and said: “O Messenger of Allaah, I have a daughter who is newly married, and she had the measles and her hair fell out. Can I give her hair extensions?” He said: “Allaah has cursed the one who fixes hair extensions and the one who has that done.”

Al-Bukhaari (5205) and Muslim (2123) narrated from ‘Aa’ishah that a girl from among the Ansaar got married and she became sick and her hair fell out. They wanted to give her hair extensions, so they asked the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) about that, and he cursed the one who fixes hair extensions and the one who has that done.

Al-Nawawi said:
The one who fixes hair extensions is the one who joins the other hair to the woman’s hair. The one who has that done is the woman who asks someone else to do that for her. These ahaadeeth clearly state that it is haraam to fix hair extensions, and the one who fixes hair extensions and the one who has that done are both cursed in general terms. This is the more correct meaning.

End quote.
False eyelashes come under the same heading, because the real eyelashes are extended with the false ones.

Moreover some doctors have mentioned that false eyelashes lead to chronic allergies in the skin and eyes, and to infection in the eyelids, and may cause the eyelashes to fall out. So using them is harmful, and the Lawgiver forbids that as the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “There should be neither harming nor reciprocating harm.”
See Zeenat al-Mar’ah bayna al-Tibb wa’l-Shar’. P. 33.

The Muslim woman should note that paying too much attention to such matters may be a kind of over-indulgence in leisure and luxury, and a waste of time and money which she could have used for something more beneficial to the Muslims, especially nowadays when people have no drive to do good and women have been distracted from their basic role which is to raise the next generation, and instead they are paying too much attention to these matters.

And Allaah knows best.

Question:
I want to know the islamic view on wearing colored contact lenses.

Answer:

Praise be to Allaah.

There are two types of contact lenses:

  1. Ophthalmic contact lenses: those that are used to correct long- or short-sightedness etc. There is nothing wrong with using this kind of contact lenses on the advice of a specialist eye-doctor.
  2. Coloured cosmetic contact lenses: these come under the rulings on adornment. If a woman wears them for her husband, there is nothing wrong with it. If she is wearing them where others will see her too, then it should not cause any fitnah or temptation. There is also the condition that they should not cause any harm, and there should be no element of cheating or deceiving, such as a woman wearing them when she meets the man who is proposing marriage to her. Also, they should not be extravagantly expensive, because Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning): “… and waste not by extravagance…” [al-An’aam 6:141].
And Allaah knows best.

Bismillah,

:salam2: lets all please be careful when speaking about people, sometimes there isnt a need to speak about or to say something about a particular person, be it a friend; neighbour; member of a family etc

its better just to advice that individual in a discreet manner, so as not to embarass them... Insha'Allah.

if we see a fault in our fellow muslim br's and sr's...then keep patience Insha'Allah and advice them with humility..besides...we all know that we can NEVER be perfect...though we can 'try' if we implement the b-yoo-ti-ful Character of Alayhis Sallatu Wassalam in our daily lives... Insha'Allah.

I leave you in ALLAH's Care- hope no-one misunderstood me Insha'Allah...

Yes thats right sister. You can wear coloured contact lens at home.. infront of "Mahram" men. THey are those who you are allowed to remove your hijab infront.. such as your , dad, brothers, uncles, Father-in-law.. but not cousins or brother-in-law.

Assalamu Alaykum, nice advice brother, am i missing something though?

i dont think there is any harm with someone saying their friend wears fake eyelashes.. it is a general statement. I do not believe she was saying her friend was at fault, but just asking a sincere question.

What you say is true though if it is about a particular Muslim brother or sister.

Shukran for making us understand more but I just dont understand one thing and maybe inshallah someone could help us to understand more.

"If a woman wears them for her husband, there is nothing wrong with it"

The way I understood the Hadith that its not allowed to wear any artificials unless there is a valid reason..The lady's hair was falling and the mother wanted to put her fake hair, but what was the reason for the fake hair? wasnt it was for the sake of the husband?

So if we say its allowed to wear colour contact lenses for your husband then there is no problem if you do the hair too for your husbands.
We have to be careful I think and the way I understand if the fake hair is not allowed then it applies the same for the eyelashes, contact, and even nails.

Please lets see if anyone can highlight us more so that we dont do any mistakes inshallah.

Bismillah,

:wasalam: Abu.Amirah...as far as i know, Alayhis sallatu wassalam forbade using wigs or fake hair!
he cursed the women who pluck their eyebrows; the plucker and the one who is getting them plucked, as it is changing the creation of Allah. people mainly do it to beautify themselves and it comes from Jahiliyah.

first of all Allah's creation is the best so are we not happy with how He's created us? Subhan'Allah..(no one should dare indulge themselves in this evil act, appreciate what Allah has blessed us with)...so if he forbade plucking the eyebrows (as people 'assume' it adds more attraction) then the wig too would be a cause of attraction.

if one says; the wig/fake har is for the husband; cos he likes it or he's happy...Subhan'Allah....one should be careful if its for that reason...how could we please the CREATION and displease the CREATOR???

Alayhis sallatu wassalam was sent as an EXAMPLE a MERCY to mankind, it is his foot steps that we follow-as Allah is pleased with him (peace be upon him) so that husband should be pleased with how his wife is in reality, with her natural beauty Insha'Allah and the sister should avoid using the wig if ALLAH has given her natural hair Insha'Allah.

ofcourse if the Ulema have mentioned something about this matter e.g. ruling, maybe cos circumstances are different for every individual then we should take their advice into consideration Insha'Allah....remember "If you are looking for an answer to something and cant find it, look in the Glorious Qu'ran as you are bound to find something in it Insha'Allah. If you feel you dont, refer it back to the Sunnah of Alayhis sallatu wassalam, atleast then you should find something. If you still seem lost, then aquire advice from a learnt Scholar Insha'Allah (as the Scholars are from the inheritance of Alayhis sallatu wassalam-:subhanallah: ) :ma:

peronally i think the wig/fake hair or anything that would seem attractive on a woman should be avoided Insha'Allah; perfume outside the home and tight fitted clothes are one of them. Remember Alayhis sallatu wassalam said "When one wears tight fitted clothes, its like as if they're naked!" and "A women who wears tight fitted clothes wont even come near to the smell of Jannah!" :subhanallah: and Allah Knows best.

May He Subhana hu wa'Ta'ala forgive me if i've said anything wrong Ameen.

my dear Brothers and Sisters please correct my mistakes e.g. if i've wrote any Ahadith wrong Insha'Allah....

i leave you in Allah's Care

Ma'Salama

Abu Amirah

Fake hair and contact lens are different issues. And like every Fatwa, it depends on individual basis.

Even rulings to do with Riba (Usury) buying a house on interest mortgage, could be allowed for some people, even though it is haram generally. It depends totally on a person's circumstances.

That is why it is important to consult true scholars who can give effective advice based on the Quran and Sunnah.. inshaAllah..

wasalam.
