The beacon of islamic Dawah has spoken the essence of it. There is no true Dawah without the protection of it - which is the sword. The sword could be anything - but it has one true essence - resistance in the face of any oppression with actions that will stop this oppresion, injustice, all aggression against Islam, until oppresion there is no more.
To conclude there is the ayah of Quran:

At-Tauba 9:39

If ye go not forth He will afflict you with a painful doom, and will choose instead of you a folk other than you. Ye cannot harm Him at all. Allah is Able to do all things

and El-Enfale 8:39

And fight them until persecution is no more, and religion is all for Allah. But if they cease, then lo! Allah is Seer of what they do.
