Delayed prayer?

“So woe unto those performers of Salaah (prayers) (hypocrites),

5. Those who delay their Salaah (prayer from their stated fixed times)”

[al-Maa’oon 107:4-5]

Does this mean if I delay my prayer 30 minutes later but I still have two hours of prayer left it's a bad thing??

Or is it that I delay it until the two hours finish?

Please answer asap! ws !

Walaikumusalam First i would like to quote a hadith.Abu Moosa al-Ash¡¯ari narrated, that someone came to the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) and asked him about the times of prayer and the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) explained to him the beginning and end of the time for each prayer, and said, The time is between these two(Muslim).So the time in this verse is the total time of the prayer not just the beginning time of the prayer according to this hadith.Secondly you can also check this fatwa http://www.islamqa.com/en/pda/ref/islamqa/67911

Wrong translation. The word used is Saahoon, which means unmindful. Praying during the allotted time means that you are mindful of the prayers.

Salaam brother.....Translation here is perfectly alright no problem with it.The one from which the sister has quoted is the best available translation in the market today translated by Dr Mohsin Khan who is Phd from madina university so he wont make such a silly mistake and secondly you said sahoon means unmindful so even not praying on time shows that the person is unmindful.Finally you can even check the Sheikh has also referred to the same translation http://www.islamqa.com/en/pda/ref/islamqa/33694

That is why when your flight doesn't go on time, it is said to be delayed. The Arabic verb سها, on the other hand, means left out unintentionally, i.e., was unmindful. It is similar to the verb نسي (to forget), except that the verb نسي, is more often used in the Quran as an active verb, That is, it is often used as a figure of speech to mean rejection or abandonment, e.g., "they forgot God, so He forgot them" (9:67).

This is giving me more courage and more hopes to study THE LANGUAGE OF THE QUR'AN....

Brother may the blessing be on you as well and may Allah grant you Jannah.As you pointed out the behaviour of verb in different circumstances i feel a person who is Phd from the Madina university wont make such a mistake and secondly even if you read Tafseer Ibn Kathir even he says that Sahoon can mean delaying.Here i am quoting (So, woe unto those performers of Salah, those who with their Salah are Sahun.) Ibn `Abbas and others have said, "This means thehypocrites who pray in public butdo not pray in private.''They are those people who pray and adhere to the prayer, yet they are mindless of it. This may either be referring to its act entirely, as Ibn `Abbas said, or it may be referring to performing itin its stipulated TIME that has been legislated Islamically.
