Diyyah laws in Saudi Arabia

Assalamu alaikum,

For those, who do not know, what Diyyah is: It is the money payable to the family of the victim of a murder, if they agree to accept it.

Can somebody from Saudi Arabia confirm the rate list of lives given in the following wikipedia article?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diyya

If this is not true, it should be corrected. Wikipedia article is referring to the following link:

http://web.archive.org/web/20110724130457/http://www.cgijeddah.com/cgijed/Welfare/deathbooklet.htm

Is it correct understanding of the law, that if a muslim man in Saudi Arabia murders a hindu woman, he will have to pay just 3333 Riyals to her family and they will have no right to ask for Qisaas (i.e. Eye for an eye) ? A clarification in this regard will be highly appreciated.

Wassalamu alaikum.

Assalamu alaikum,

More than a year ago, I had requested the saudi friends at TTI to cofirm the information given in the above mentioned wikipedia article regarding Diyya Laws in Saudi Arabia. I have yet to receive an answer. Please also confirm, if a non-muslim has the right to opt for Qisaas (and to reject the Diyya).

If this article is not true, then it is our moral responsibility to correct it.

Assalamu alaikum,

I had asked original questino about Diyyah laws in Saudi Arabia 3 years before. I would like to conclude it now with the assumption, that the information provided in wikipedia is correct, given the fact, that in 3 years nobody has posted a reply on this thread.

I would like to discuss the law of diyyah and qisaas in length and would like to point out, where it had been misunderstood.

Can the family of a christian man ask for Qisaas, when he was killed by a muslim man? If not, on what basis? Isn't it injustice, if no muslim murderer can be killed for killing non muslims?
