Salaams to all, I need to understand when Allah swt says "cover your sins and repent only to me" and when he says if you need to swear, swear by me...
My question is, if someone commits a sin in private, be it miss a prayer, fornicate, exagerates, what ever the sin maybe and than make tauba to Allah(swt) and moves on but then one day sum1 asks you a question about that sin, do you basically "lie" and deny due to covering your sin because you have already made repentance with your lord, and wat if your are kinda forced to say "Wallahi" what kind of position are you now in??? and Allah knows best.:tti_sister:

:salam2: sister,

I think you should still cover your sin, but try to avoid swearing by Allah by any means, since talking about one's sins is a sin in itself. And Allah knows best.

Salaam,

Cover your sin means, if you commit a sin then don't go boast about it and say I done such a such. If someone ask you and you don't want to talk about ur sin. Tell them it's between Allah swt and you and no one else.

Salaam

Concealing your sins is an obligation upon a Muslim..as revealing that which Allah (swt) has concealed is a mockery of Allah's Mercy (wal 'eyatho billah) towards that person in concealing that which might harm him/her amongst people..

But

In cases where someone is questioned about a sin due to a valid or critical condition (and I repeat under a *valid* and *critical* condition..not when a friend..or a fellow Muslim asks..for the sake of *knowing* or *conversing*..what is meant by this is a situation much much much more relevant and sensitive in nature)..and he/she is asked to *swear* by Allah that they have not committed this sin...then the person is allowed to make what is called a:

*Tawriyah* (تورية)

In which a person for example is asked *have you consumed alcohol? if you have not swear on Allah that you have not!*...if the person has infact consumed alcohol and have made tawba and no longer commits this sin..but he/she feels that admitting to comitting it will cost them their marriage..cause them to be disowned..punished severely..lose their job..or become ex-communicated by their community..et cetra..in other words..they will be *gravely harmed*..then the person can say *By Allah I have not consumed alcohol* BUT in their heart mean By Allah I have not consumed alcohol: *yesterday*..*last week*..*last month*..*or today* (whichever time *after* they made tawba)..they do not swear under the context of *I have NEVER consumed alcohol*..because THEN it would not count as *tawriyah*

Now I gave an *example* of a *simple* situation..and it might sound a bit perplexing at first..but the principle of *tawriyah* does exist in fiqh with several conditions (which once read and comprehended..define this principle explicitly)..

That's why..I think it would be a good idea for you sister ummyasiin to look it up and read into it in thorough detail so you may understand it better because sometimes I do lack in clarity of communication..I think it's worth reading into if there's an ongoing situation of the sort you described originally..especially if along with reading about it..you consult a scholar about the specific situation and ask how tawriyah would play a part in it

Salams sister ,if possible tell the person there are some things you dont want to discuss and move on to another subject and if they insist leave but in the nicest way possible, as it is nobodies buisness to ask such Q's , what benefit to them would it be if they found out sins of other people any way?
In situations like this I am very vague and peole seem to make up thier own answers and I just leave them thinking what ever they want, and inshallah Allah ta'laa will guide them and us inshallah , hope this helps just me thoughs on the subject.

u should not say ur sins to some else , but why should that person what to know about ur sins ?? , should he be not doing that , how can u embaraces some one by asking such personal question , when allah says that u should ask and tell me ur sins , then how can that person ask such questions , we can avoid him by saying its not rite of u to ask such questions .
