Does Islam consider women as possession ? according to this surah?

Surah 3:14 Adorned for the people are the worldly pleasures, such as the women, having children, piles upon piles of gold and silver, trained horses, livestock, and crops. These are the materials of this world. A far better abode is reserved at GOD.

As-salaamu `alaykum.

No but I'm sure some foolish journalist or missionary has propagated that notion! Not the best of similitude's, but when some rapper raps about his love for women, jewellery and horses (cars) I don't notice anyone make the same conclusions. The ayaah is simply referring to the things man loves in this world, what he seeks to acquire, in that sense its materialistic. Also, the translation you pasted seems quite blunt and poor to me, I prefer this...

"Beautified for men is the love of things they covet; women, children, much of gold and silver (wealth), branded beautiful horses, cattle and well-tilled land. This is the pleasure of the present world's life; but Allâh has the excellent return (Paradise with flowing rivers, etc.) with Him. (Aali Imran 3:14)"

That's Shaykh Taqee ud-Deen Al-Hilaalee's translation.

Hope it helps
